So, what you’re saying is that, even as a kid, he’s always been a different breed?

How did you get this audio?

I grew up in Iowa and played trumpet in high school in the 90's and one of my band teachers had this audio recording and shared it with me as an example of excellence. I never knew Ryan personally but I did meet and chat with his brother Justin a couple times.

David, I went to North High School in Sioux City, graduated 2003. Ryan’s father, Larry Kisor was my band director. I overlapped one year with Lance Kisor, Ryan’s youngest brother. MY brother is Lance’s age and overlapped one year at NHS with Justin. I credit the entire Kisor family for an intense and transformative early education in jazz and music in general. Got any more recordings like this???

@@trumpetreneau Hello Doug. I agree that Larry was a huge impact to the music education for Sioux City North High School. I had the pleasure of meeting Larry a few times at the Iowa Jazz Championships (IJCs) in Des Moines as well as his son Justin. I have some recordings of the IJCs with Justin playing with Sioux City North High School in mid 90s. I also have other recordings of other High Schools competing in the IJCs in the mid 90s (West Des Moines Valley, Sioux City East, Norwalk, Harlan, Pella). Not all of these recordings are on KZbin though as I only uploaded a few of them before I got busy with other things. Here are some IJC records I have on YT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fna5fKuYnpihe5Y kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppy8m2ykZp5mqq8

@@n33d4forum Amazing. I perused through your collection on YT and I’m 99% sure my brother Charley Reneau is playing in the trombone section on the “‘Round Midnight” recording. What a great throwback! Thanks for uploading these!
