Ryan Noble of Yuma, Colorado, ranches for a profit. It has kept Noble Ranch operating under the same family for more than a century. Ryan began making genetic decisions in 2001 and that’s when he decided to go with Angus. No more is the rancher searching for what changes to make, only continuing progress toward quality. He has standards for his herd-minimal inputs, along with docility, longevity and fertility-and Angus fits all of them.
The family’s only source of income is cow money, so the keeping the business focused on growth is essential to supporting ranch and family affairs. At the end of every quarter, the cattleman sits down and compares the numbers across the cow-calf, stocker, fed cattle and heifer development enterprises to clearly see which ones are economic drivers. Through this process, the family quickly embraced a heifer development program for Basin Angus Ranch customers that encompasses the progeny from 6,500 cows in all. But the females don’t get all the attention…their 2018 pen of fed steers crowded 70% Certified Angus Beef ® brand acceptance.
