I meet Pete Rose In Las Vegas. He was do a signing gig. I git to him he asked me how I wanted my baseball signed. I said to me Jerry. He said you know the baseball will not have as much value that way. I said I dont care about that. I want to give it to my grandson if I ever have one. He than told me to come and have a seat.He asked me where I was from. He than proceeded to tell about all the fun he had playing whne he ws very young in the minors as one of the parks was in my home town.He talked for over an 1/2 hour. Obtw..I now have a grandson...who is an All Star Player.

We were so lucky to actually be able to watch these legends in their prime and have them part of our lives growing up. The first thing I ever did when I woke up in 70's and 80's summers was check the box scores. We got to grow up watching the greatest players to ever play. I wouldn't trade those years for any of the the other generations or era's.

As a kid growing up in Orange County California, the Angels greatest move was getting Nolan Ryan. They went from having 11,000 people in the stands on a good night, to selling out. The franchise went from a joke to respectability on his back. Love the man...

Pete had nothing to say. Not many people can tell a story and leave Pete without anything to add. Two of the absolute greatest. The All-Time No-hitter & Strikeout King and the All-Time Hits King. Two fiery competitors who lived to get over on the other. Both had their moments.

Having grown up with the Ryan Express, this made me laugh and made me sad too. Sad in that my beloved Halos should have never let him go. (The infamous Buzzie Bavasi's idiotic crack about all he needed to find were two 8 and 7 pitchers.) Watching Nollie pitch at the Big A back in the early '70s was like listening to a Mahler Symphony.... 220 pitches... 15 strikeouts... 12 walks... a hit batsmen.... a plethora of runners, and, probably 2 actual hits (both singles) with the crescendo being the Angels lose 2-1 in 12 innings with Ryan pitching every frame. Boy, he gave you your money's worth! That's for sure!

And now starters barely go 6 innings and 80 pitches.
@scottmunson29172 жыл бұрын
@@tygunn8183 And, of those 80 pitches, 41 are strikes and 39 are balls as they nibble, nibble, nibble. Plus they strike out 10, walk 4 and give up at least one 3-run homer. But, what they hey! It's a "quality start"!
