The olympics is just a more glamorous SLS, the skateboarding community has to understand that there isn't enough money in skating for all the pros, that's why Mikey Taylor became Mikey NFTaylor, skating doesn't pay enough to retire and the olympics they won't change that

I find it comical how skaters try to Gatekeep this 90's mentality that is no longer even there Even in the 90's, some of the most succesful brands where still own by a man wearing a suit & tie Had skateboarding kept that mentality, there wouldn't be skateboarding today at the level that it is And many Pros would have had to move themselves into corporate America to receive a check.

Olympics stands out against everything skateboarding is all about,freedom,no rules,no competition,no coaches,no BS.

it does but only for like a week every 4 years and only for the skaters who choose to take part in it. For the rest of us it doesn't change much and it brings new kids to skateboarding, possibly helping out skateshops

@@TCH534 I’m not saying the contest aspect has to go away, but for being the Olympics I would think they’d make it more interesting than what we already have direct access too. Contest skaters do the same tricks on different courses already, now that sounds against skateboarding.

When I was a kid there weren't many parks so everyone was in the street. I would have to drive a hr away and get kicked when we didn't have the permit ot the gate was locked. Now days they build the prefect environment to excel why go to the street. And no one cares who's skating. If a cop saw me skating whiteout a helmet I was out of the park for the day. I hate Ridgley MD lol. This was back in 04-07 though.

Maybe its just me but i feel like they need two classes for competition under 18 and over 18 or under 18 and over 21. Cause all these new kids coming in doing 1060s or watever cause their bodies are made of rubber lol adults cant compete with that their bodies dont do that anymore lol.

I’ve been training my son for the last 3 years with daily skating and developing him to be the best he can mentally be. He just turned 10 last week and landed his first kickflip crook down the local 15 stair 2nd try. He’s solid as a rock and never has broken a bone yet and I make him wear a helmet and coach him through new tricks and never go too far out of his comfort zone but he is starting to move past me in skill and feel like he’s gonna be teaching me in a year. Lol. So glad he came around to the skateboard as well because he was always scared to ride until about 3 years ago and never touched his scooter since. Lets just say I’m a proud dad

Shecks is right. You can't stop this commercial side of skating. It's gonna be in the Olympics for at another 20 years. I don't see it as a bad thing. Maybe skating won't be as "cool", but I don't think those guys give a shit. They're trying to make money doing what they love. We've seen already the cycle of skating. Huge in the 70s and 80s. Dipped off in the 90s. Came back with a bang and the 10s. The same thing will happen again. When the commercial side chills out. You'll be left with the innovators, and they'll make it cool again. I dunno, as Shecks says. It's all skateboarding and should be respected
