Lovely rendition! Where did you learn Old time 3 finger? I'm looking for resources online but can't find many...

Howdy Ramone, My particular 'Old time 3 Finger' approach is a combination of some pretty standard old time 2 finger thumb lead style along with a fair amount of 'Charlie Poole' 3 finger style, some familiar 'scruggs' and a bit of 'upstroke style' thrown in. If you're looking for some instruction in that realm, I cover all of those style in the first 18 lessons of the Live Lesson Archive inside the Play Better Banjo membership area. You can find out more about the membership here: www.playbetterbanjo.com/better-banjo-way Also, if you just want to take a look at a bunch of 3 finger old time arrangements of mine, you can go to the Play Better Banjo youtube channel , click on 'playlists' and then 'Old time Fingerstyle banjo lessons'...admittedly, most of the material there consists of performances with accompanying tab but there are also a few tutorial snippets that might get you started on your path to Old time 3 Finger delight... Hope that helps, my friend!

@@PlayBetterBanjo Thanks a lot. I did see the 2FTL and Charlie Poole rolls influences, if you developed it by yourself congratulations, it's very nice! I will definitely check out your 3 finger videos (I follow you since I started "clawhammer" 6 years ago) and try to develop my own style!

Absolutely lovely and wholesome. 💖But, aren't those strings real slack? I only ever played steel-strung banjo, so I don't know about the normal tension on nylon strings - and I'm just assuming those top 3 strings are nylon due to the sound and that they look thicker than the lower one. Or, have you tuned the instrument lower than normal to suit your natural vocal range? - which is absolutely legit.

Yes, I'm using nylon strings in this vid. Particularly, I'm using the Aguilla brand 'minstrel banjo' strings. They're low tuned to on open D (relative to the common open G banjo tuning of today)...

Lovely job! I have one question, in the tab it looks like in measure 9 in the place where the chord is normally written there's an S? What does that mean? I can't seem to find it anywhere online
@ryanspearman2620 Жыл бұрын
GOOD QUESTION! That looks like a typo. That should read: 'D' there. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll try to post a corrected version to the tab page soon.

Thank you! That's good to know, I thought I was going crazy, like "that really looks like an S am I just misreading??" Haha
