Ryanair 1-11 is a ‘real time’ unedited flight deck video, filmed in 1992, of an actual passenger flight in a BAC 1-11-500 from London Stansted to Dublin . This cockpit video follows the flight in every detail from before engine start to after engine shutdown, including pilot conversations and with Air Traffic Control.
Filmed in 1992 by MCM Productions/JumpSeat Productions.

The BAC 1-11. A truly wonderful aircraft. After over a hundred flights as passenger over Philippine skies, it never failed to provide a satisfying experience. It was eventually replaced by the 737s and A320s but to me, it remains as the icon in short-haul aviation.

Pure gold! Decent rate of around 4,200ft a minute! There’s something reassuring about old analogue dials.

I have seen zillions of cockpit videos but I only recently discovered these gems. What a treat to see some real flying from a bygone era before glass, FMS and auto-throttle!

Felt the same thing . A Fokker F27 using VOR’s & DME’s to navigate . I had almost forgotten DME’s.

Love it! I went on a BWA BAC 1-11 in 1998, since then my favourite a/c. I was so lucky to get a chance to fly in one. Proper flying ;-)

Awesome video and memories. I worked for Servisair Stansted in the early 90’s. Remember the Romanian Ryanair pilots who were such characters. Full lung of cigarette smoke when getting the fuel figures on arrival in the cockpit. I think they came from Tarom with the Rombac 1-11s.? Happy Days

Great video. Thanks for posting this. There are a lot of great cockpit videos out there, but this is probably the best one I've seen, start to finish including comms. Thanks so much for posting this! I took great interest in watching the flight instruments as well... Awesome!

Amazing! This is real flying! Navigation via an analog HSI, none of this EHSI and ECAM rubbish.

Great Video! I was really surprised when at the end I've realized that the First Officer, 15 years later, flew with me as instructor on Boeing 737.

Very nice shots. Thank you very much for posting and sharing. In 2001 I flew in Egypt with a ROM-BAC on a local flight. I got some video recordings out of the window. I can still remember them very well and am now happy to see the whole thing from a different perspective.

Man, they were hauling arse at approach. They started deploying flaps way above 200kts, and came below 200kts really close in to landing. I did not know that was allowed. Very interesting video, many thanks for posting.

But also note they joined a real long final.. but yeah jets of this era were much more maneuverable, more reserve power. Also, not as strict approach stability criteria at the time.

@@ilarikousa1500 Yes, and the 1.8 second spool up time on the Rolls Royce Spey engines permitted idle power approaches and landings, unlike others that had to maintain power on approach, to be prepared for a go around. (Overshoot to the Brits) I had 9,000 hours in the 1-11/200, about half in each seat, between 1968 and 1982. The video was very familiar.

Great video mate, very informative on the early days of Ryanair and the experience of what it was like to fly a bac 111. Would I be able to use this footage with full credit and a link to your channel in a video I am making about the bac 111 aircraft. Thanks - shaun

Ryanair began with 2 or 3 of these aircraft I seem to remember ,I flew to Dublin with them around 1989 I think , I seem to remember they only flew from Luton at the time.

They started with an Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante. They alter acquired some Aerospztiale ATR42s and BAC 1-11 500s - some of them Romanian built.

Can anyone confirm that the 1-11 had fold-out stairs in the tail and rear-facing seats over the wings (emergency exit)? I'm trying to identify the aircraft that I flew on with my late cousin on Friday 17th June 1988. The carrier was Dan Air and we flew from Manchester to Ibiza.

Dont think those two got on too well. FO tells CAP (on chocks DUB) left wing dropping whilst hand flying....no response from CAP. I would have thought wing drop caused potentially by what appears to be throttle stagger in the cruise.maybe no1 engine a bit more power than no2
