That was fun! Top Trumps is called Super Trunfo here in Brazil and it is still really common -- the publisher has something like 25 versions currently listed on their website. And it only costs 20 BRL (3.50 USD), which is probably one of the reasons why it remains so popular. Dobble, for example, is 3-4 times as expensive here.

Interesting video. The lowest ranked game on BGG still in my collection is The Target; I like the style of the game, and I made it a point to replace the envelopes with something less transparent.

The Bucket King rated 6.3, rank 3948 (Not the 3D edition) We play a variant which very slightly tweaks gameplay. Always a hoot after a heavy euros and a few beers.

I'm a big fan of house ruling games to make them work. Especially faster lighter games. But if a bigger more involved game needs tweaking, we usually just end up not playing it a lot anymore.

Instead of Phase 10, you're just better off playing a contract rummy game with 2 decks of cards. Contract Rummy only has 7 games with the contract (i.e.; phase) changing with each deal. And, then the game is won with points. It's a rummy that has a decent length, but it doesn't take forever to play. It doesn't end up with the pile on the leader with skips nonsense that extends the game. The best house rule for Phase 10 is just not to play it.
