Ok, I'll throw a couple of different ones. "RED" Bruce Willis. Action, fun, a little RomCommie on more of sideproduct type. Another RonCommie on a Bazaar, goofy, fun, kinda sports like and I'll say Bazaar again... "Kingpin" Starring Woody Harelson, Bill Murray, the gorgeous Vanessa Angel, Randy Quaid too name a few. Think you'll like it! Also saw "True Lies" with Arnold Swartzennager and Jamie Lee Curtis. requested. Agree 100% Enjoy! And thanks again for sharing ur reactions. Really refreshing.

This is a redo of the musical "My Fair Lady" which in turn is taken from the play "Pygmalion." The polo match in this movie is a nod to "My Fair Lady" in which there is a horse race. The dress worn by the lead lady in both productions is brown with white spots.

I saw this movie back in the day when I was around in 4th or 5th grade (1991-1992) on VHS 📼. I didn’t see it in the theater back in early 1990 when I was still in 3rd grade but it was quite a phenomenon when it was out. I saw it multiple times in the early 90s because my mom owned a copy of this movie. Then I didn’t see it again until maybe 5-6 years ago. Almost 30 years. You know what? It actually holds up very well! It aged much better than Dirty Dancing (1987). It’s quite comparable to The Little Mermaid (1989) released 4 months earlier. Redheaded, attractive girl with a heart of gold and fish out of water story. It’s become one of my top 10 favorite chick flicks and rom-coms ever. This is Julia Roberts during her absolute prime after she did Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias. Made her America’s sweetheart. I have an uncle who kinda looks like Eric Roberts, Julia’s older bro. Very underrated performance by Héctor Elizondo who portrayed the hotel manager. Very kind to help Viv get a dress after that snotty saleswoman told her to leave. “Big mistake! Huge!” In real life, Julia Roberts and Dey Young enjoyed working together and Dey is a sweet, sweet lady. Great 2021 article on Dey Young… www.today.com/today/amp/tdna208842 Laura San Giacomo who portrays Vivian’s gal pal, Kit, is hilarious in it. The screenplay still holds up. Pretty Woman was kinda the blueprint for 90s rom-coms that followed it including Julia again in My Best Friend’s Wedding and all the rom-coms that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan did together in the 80s and 90s. The scene with Jason Alexander’s character trying to rape Vivian was a bit shocking and disturbing. This was years before he did Seinfeld. Jason is hilarious in Shallow Hal. Movies like When Harry Met Sally and Pretty Woman still hold up today. If you were born in the 60s-70s and you’re female who saw Pretty Woman in the 90s, it’s probably one of your favorite movies. I think it’s better and funnier than the overrated Mean Girls (2004) and Barbie. Great songs! “It Must’ve Been Love” - Roxette “Fallen” - Lauren Wood “King of Wishful Thinking” - Go West I have all those songs. There’s a great remake from Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon for “King of Wishful Thinking”. Keep the 80s and 90s classics coming! Pretty Woman remains a timeless 90s classic. Reminds me of better days when I was ages 10-11 rewatching Pretty Woman and Troop Beverly Hills (1989). If you were born in the late 70s to early 80s (Xennial), you would’ve loved the late 80s through early 90s. It was a special time and feeling being a kid. No Internet, smartphones, and social media yet to ruin our fun. I’m a straight dude who doesn’t always have the urge to watch predictable rom-coms and I think Pretty Woman is still a great and iconic movie after 30+ years. Watch it again in 30 years and you’ll still have a smile on your face.

So, this is a bit off topic, but if you're open to suggestions, Laura San Giacomo, who played the friend Kit, was in a successful TV show in the late 90s early 2000s called "Just Shoot Me", but was also in a 90s western about an American cowboy that goes to Australia called "Quigley Down Under". It's a good flick I dig starring Tom Selleck, who maybe you don't know due to age or geography, but seems like you and everyone else knows "Friends", where he played Monica's boyfriend Richard. He was actually supposedly offered the role of Indiana Jones before Harrison Ford, but turned it down because he had already agreed to star in a TV show called "Magnum P.I." which made him a huge star and heartthrob wanted by all women in the 80s. The great Allan Rickman plays the villain in it as well, and she's got a great character in it. It's a fun one. You should check it out.

The opera was Verdi's La Traviata (a woman tossed aside). It's about a prostitute who falls in love with a rich guy, and he comes around and loves her too. But it ends in tragedy.

Homeless guy sarcastically-pointing out Sylvester Stallone's house is this film's director, Garry Marshall. Detective asking about dumpster body ("Friends" Phoebe's Minsk boyfriend) is Hank Azaria (many voices on "The Simpsons" and the role of houseboy Agador in "The Birdcage"). I'm no expert, but my understanding is that flatware table settings are laid out from first-use on the outside, then move in as things are used. The restaurant served escargot (snails), likely sautéed in butter, garlic, & parsley before being placed back in the shell. They're actually quite delicious (I've had them). They're quite similar to clams, right down to overcooking pushing them from tender to rubbery as pencil erasers. One thing I like in the film is presenting the fact that truly civilized individuals know manners are meant to put others present at ease. Too many uncouth snobs weaponize manners to emphasize social status difference, but that's merely a sign of someone lacking confidence or 'breeding'; it's a 'tell'. Manners are meant as a social lubricant, meant to allow social grace; you minimize awkwardness, make people feel comfortable, make interaction comfortable and supported. You mentioned the chemistry between the lead characters; Garry Marshall also did "Runaway Bride" with them. (Full disclosure, some of it was filmed near where I was living in Baltimore at the time, including a bakery I frequented). The qualities you mentioned of this film ('wise', 'a little corny', 'grounded characters', 'leaves you with a smile', 'fairytale-like', 'an easy watch') are signatures of Garry Marshall films. You might consider checking out more of his films. Loved watching you watch this. Yeah, it's a little different, but sometimes it's nice to watch something sweet and pleasant, and I think you really enjoyed this and enjoyed the successes the leads were having.

We're (speaking as a woman) not always looking for Rom-Coms and/or or eye-candy. I love movies, and I enjoy your reactions! My preferences tend toward the psychological horror and /or existential, surreal, funny David Lynch -type (he's my fave director) films. That said, I watched "Pretty Woman" at a sleep-over as a kid. All our parents were super mad, and I never understood why. Nothing really scandalous happens.

Someone suggested you react to "A League of Their Own" (1992). That might be interesting just for comparison purposes (it's also an excellent film). "Pretty Woman" (1990) was directed by Garry Marshall. "A League of Their Own" is directed by Garry's sister Penny Marshall. For more contrast, consider "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) directed by Nora Ephron and starring Rob Reiner, Penny Marshall's ex-husband. Note: Tom Hanks stars in both "A League of Their Own" and "Sleepless in Seattle". Rosie O'Donnell is also a supporting actor in both.

I’ll buy that! Very loose since Edward isn’t terribly interested in making her over except when he helps her out with the clothes shopping but taking the “common guttersnipe” and converting her into a potential “shop girl” theme is legit. And Hector Elizondo as Barney is gold. He was so good in The Flamingo Kid.

You should ask to men who hate chick flicks, which are your favorites. I will suggest When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs Congeniality. Women love Jerry Maguire too.

3000 plus the clothes that he brought her as well. so, add that to the bill of him paying awhile she's living with him for a whole week. plus, her food expense. But if it were me back in this era, I would have gone for 5000 instead of 3000.

Very good reaction! 1) Barney is my favorite character in the movie. He's a real gentleman. The best definition of a gentleman I heard is: someone who makes other people in their presence comfortable. 2) About Vivian getting kicked out of boutique. These stores live and die on reputation and regular clientele. If rumor started that the boutique was selling clothes to streetwalkers - they would have been ruined. Vivian could have bought a cheap t-shirt and pants and changed, instead of wearing her "work clothes" before she went to an expensive store. Of course the saleswomen should have been tons more polite and explain that she is not appropriately dressed for their store, that's why they are asking her to leave.

Yeah barney was great. Also, going off that definition, I really liked the old boy at dinner who's company Edward was going after. Ahh that still annoys me haha If they can afford the clothes, I say fair play. I'd not shop somewhere like that out of principle. I won't go to bars where they enforce dress shoes 😂 I remember my girlfriend being made to feel uncomfortable in quite a high end store in Florida. I think they mistook her casual holiday attire for poverty. They definitely forfeited commission that day. She's always bloody buying shoes and bags haha

Obviously, the major difference between us gaudy, ostentatious Americans (which we can be) and you guys is we didn't grow up in the rigid British class system. While bexomibg an more upperclassmen British person seems like a betrayal of some working class roots. Getting more well off and rubbing in the face of those who were shit to us seems appropriate. Maybe not always, but if they were particularly shitty then a BIG Yes to that. I can see the positives and negatives of both.
