17:02 Funny you should say that, because it's supposed to look like baby food, symbolizing mankind still in its infancy of space travel.

That out of focus kiss scene was filmed very fast, because they had been waiting for a good sunset for several days. They had two takes, ones totally out of focus and this one, where it pops into focus after few second. Also, they filmed the nude scene on the first day.

There were toga parties for months in our student community after this movie. Cheers from Stellenbosch, a university town in South Africa. Please wat Steven Spielberg's 1941 with Belushi as a P-40 fighter pilot defending LA against a Japanese "invasion". Cheers! 🥃🖖🏻🇿🇦

The visuals in THIS flick do indeed still hold their own. I don't think they could've done any better a job with cgi.

I use this movie as a litmus test for personality to this day. Never met anyone who thinks it's horrible that wasn't insufferable with the sense of humor of a 100 year old British man.

The jokes which "didn't age well" were also edgy 45 years ago. That was the point of National Lampoon's humor.

I think that if you haven't seen the Lord of the Rings you might be surprised by how much you like them. And if you do choose to watch them please choose the extended editions. They offer more backstory and character development despite throwing off the pacing a little bit

The biker guy in this, Tex Cobb, is a great kick boxer. He tried boxing but his skills didn't translate. In real life he is of almost mythical toughness as, even in losing fights, he could not be hurt. He's an interesting guy.

John Woo films and others in this genre were strong inspirations for Matrix, Tarantino, and almost all modern shootouts caught on film.

Checks were a thing but for large amounts they were not accepted. I looked up what $1,500 then would be the equivalent today and it's $9,599.18. So yeah a personal check for that amount would not be accepted. If it was from a credible bank they would accept it.

50:28 the fact that this movie was made almost THIRTY years ago (that’s painful to write) It’s a testament to how well they made this movie that it is still so impressive this many years later

Its lasers. Shields are mechanic stoppers. Lasers are not mechanic. And that's why the Emperor ship is like a mirror sphere. That way, it can stop mechanic impacts and lasers.

The gorgeous blonde in the car is Heart's Nancy Wilson, wife at the time of the author, Cameron Crowe. And Mrs. Vargas is the late Lana Clarkson, murdered by music producer and famed loon Phil Spector.

The best things about this movie are the suspense generated by the music and scene shifts and Donald Pleasance. The rest just seems average to me. Friday the 13th seems scarier IMO though the story lines in that franchise, too, are pretty weak.

I have always been fascinated by the true story, the true horror: the 1974 Defeo Murders in Amityville, Long Island. The Lutz's "ghost" story is all hearsay, whether yoy believe it or not, what is certain is that Ronald Butch Defeo jr took a shotgun and murdered his entire family ( his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers) systematically, room to room as they slept. Thats more horrific than any ghost story.

@RyanCarrington I only watched one because I'm not really a SM fan and I'm really not an MCU fan but when I saw someone reference Aunt May in another reaction to MCV. I actually had to google SM cast because I completely missed that was her pretty much thirty years later. Just wow.

I was stationed at the Army installation Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas when this movie came out. One of the theaters in San Antonio had midnight showings on Fridays and Saturdays. We, soldiers and civilians, would toke up right in the theater. It was great! This movie also spawned a lot of toga parties the wilder the better!
