Former McDonalds degen here: the bottom bun "hole" is intentionally put in it by the bread makers for McDonalds so that the person in the grill area knows that the bottom bun goes with the seedless small bun (like the mcdouble and McChicken) compared to the sesame bun for Big Mac and Quarter Pounder. They are all technically different bottom buns but the machine that toasts them mixes everything up and you cant tell unless you check that hole thing. God I'm a degen for remembering that
