I own a GSD with a really high prey drive Rats, Mice and the occasional possum are all on her list usually they stay up high on the fence just out of her reach but she’s managed to nab a rat on the ground that just couldn’t make the fence faster than her. Currently every night is spent smelling for them she’s only 2yrs old

@@johnc1666 I bought a used TLR 22 5.0 and it´s total not the same 😅 I´m sitting in germany and it was really hard to get a new one for almost a year. So i try to find a used on in good conditions. What can i say... When the car arrived the situation was total different. The pictures and the text told my it was a car in good conditions....🤣 So i had a car in not that good condition 😁 And there was a lot of non TLR Parts used 😅 In that case you have to struggle with wrong parts, cheap parts, defectiv parts and wrong mounted parts. If you are a beginner in the hobby you defenitly better with a new car because it´s less frustrating to get into having fun 😋

The rule for buying used is what the new price is cut it in half. This can give you better leverage for repairs. Also most racers dump 100's of $'s in after market parts. That can also be a big bonus. Site unseen can definitely be difficult but always make sure to ask for as many pictures as you can get. Just like relationships they can show a lot of red flags. Sometimes, you can manage to get extras thrown in like servos, or spare parts, extra bidies, wheels and tires, etc..

Used-New does exist also. I found a "used" 8x elite kit with all the parts still in the sealed bags for $140 under the new price. They are rare but do exist and might be worth the effort if you are planning on spending that kind of money.

I would say the opposite, buy second hand for a first car. It’s going to take awhile to learn the ropes so if you can buy a car that’s just out of date it will still be really competitive and you will never reach its limits, and you can pick them up for like £150 rather than the £300 they retailed at

@@ad2332 I get what your saying but as a new person to the rc hobby they might not know what to look for even the fact that there are videos telling you otherwise, yes they might save $100 or so but do they know how to fix it and how what it will cost, in the end I always find myself just regretting the purchase because I could've spent like $100 more on a brand new car that is up to date on parts and specs. Good point though 👍🏻

I bought my first car used rtr, for me it was the good choice. When you know nothing about the hobby, assembly, setup, tires, shocks, batteries, diff and gearing etc I think used from the right person is the way to go. They are gonna take a beating for a while anyway. So get a used one, learn to drive, learn a little maintenence, then when you're ready, build a new car. Just my humble Newby opinion. 😁

You really are the man Ryan. You covered damn near everything, racing for 25 years I’ve bought a few used rides, and being as thorough as we have to be to have a consistent race car, I’ve spent more than it would have cost for a new kit almost every time. Bearings, shock rebuilds, diff rebuilds, arms, hinge pins, hardware, and the “options” (hopefully if you bought the used kit you got one that had a bunch of options on it) gets expensive. But sometimes we have to learn from our experiences with them. Thanks for the content brother!

I've got a few pretty good deals on used RC's, but it can be a real crapshoot if you don't know what to look for. One thing you didn't touch on, if you're buying a non current production model, make sure the manufacturer still sells enough parts to keep it going well into the future, or at least make sure you can stock up on some of the essentials before they're out of stock everywhere. That really goes for any older RC that you run though. Last summer I let a friends kit try out my nearly new Associated B44, and he broke a front arm. I had no idea those were so hard to find now, and that car is now definitely off the loaner list.

I just sold mine as used and it's near mint with a tonne of parts. My track closed and didn't want a shelf queen. If you want to get started it's not a bad way to go. Key points look for racing cars, not bashed cars. Used bashers are usually.... well bashed! I would recommend rebuild shocks as you don't know what oil is in them. I have sold my used cars for like half of what I paid for the kit. Not everyone can afford new. Cheers

Used can be good, especially if you pick a car up from one of the top racers or team drivers at a local track, usually they are spec’d pretty well. If you really want a money pit get into the vintage rc scene (cars pre 1998). I’m running a Losi XX & a Schumacher Cat 2000ec, keeping vintage cars running and hunting spare parts out is a labour of love lol

I suggest to only get a used model if you get a good enough deal to where you can turn around and sell it for your money back or for profit. I just bought a used mbx7r eco and I’m super happy with it. I asked the seller for plenty of photos and videos and he seemed to care about the car as much as I plan on caring for it too. I’ve had good experiences buying a couple used rc’s but I think from here on out, I will be buying new. I don’t want to test my luck any longer. Plus, there’s nothing like a brand new rc

If you are on a budget and are looking to buy used, best thing you can do is get in touch with one of the local racers that is fast and has a great maintenance program. You can always tell who they are. Cars are always mint and they are usually the same guys that get a new car at least every season. They are usually super cool about hooking up the locals with quality used cars for prices that still save you some money. Those same people are also great sources for used spares.

I bought 50:50 New/used(already built). The kits were definately the better experience! The two rollers i bought used were sold as serviced and 'well maintained'. Yes... after I rebuilt them anyways. The first roller i mainly bought for parts, so everything ok, price was a steal too. second roller i bought with the intend to get racing again. should have rebuild it completely (not partially like i did). Loose screws, broken a block, etc... replaced and upgraded many things. If you can, buy new kits!

Dear Ryan, A good video. I do not agree 100% with the statement, but in principle you are right. I believe that a beginner in the scene can also compete in the "first" races with a used one. Because at the beginning, in the first RC races, you struggle as a beginner less with the hardware than with everything else. Basically I agree with you and yes, if you show a failure with a used RC car, it can end up being more expensive than a new kit. I shared the video on my homepage, under the section that deals with "used cars". Thanks in any case for this great video. Best regards "Beside the Race" #besidetherace

I just did the same thing a few days ago. Picked up a used RB6.1D at my local race track/hobby shop. Came with 17.5 motor, esc, and savox servo. I would hope that the owner of one of the longest running tracks in the country would do folks right and only take in vehicles that are in pretty good condition, to sell to his support. So, in my case, I give the benefit of the doubt and feel like I got a great deal on a supported "Team" product at his place as well. And your first two points, I feel exactly the same way.

I got one recently that the droop was uneven and it was driving me nuts trying to find the issue. The original owner had two different length shock rod ends on it so the shock length was different but wasn't showing up in the shaft length measurement. So weird as there weren't tuning parts with it and that's a really odd part to have to replace. TBH if you're racing I don't think I'd ever buy one you can't inspect in person. Also make sure they have and send all the tuning parts that came with it. Thinks like block inserts get expensive if every time you want to make a change you find you're missing a block, or a shim, etc that is in the manual.

If you decide to buy used, don't buy sight unseen. the picture you see on ebay, fb or what other site, doesn't mean that is the actual rc you will be receiving. Go to swap meets, buy from a friend or at least a place you can drive to ( within reason ) to see the rc. I think most 1st time buyers won't be buying roller rc's, they'll want the electronics already installed. So if you are buying used, are the electronics any good? IMPO, if you are a 1st time buyer, buy new, period. Even a new rc needs to be gone through to make sure the fluid levels are good, tighten screws (adding lock tight ) so forth and so on, so you'll be getting to know your rc anyway. I also recommend watching a lot of video's on the rc you plan on buying. Read the forum's. Is the rc you plan on buying a reliable rc? Does it break a lot? How much are the parts? ( scale size matters when it comes to price, my 5th scale dbxl-e 2.0 parts are very expensive compared to my brothers 8th scale kraton 6s blx v5) What's the availability of parts? (you might get them in a few days or it could be months) So before you buy new or used, are you prepared to put the money and time into maintaining and repairing the rc? It can be a very expensive hobby.

I been in "hobby grade" since '86 and I will buy a used RC if I know the seller AND personally witnessed the use and maintenance. Other than that no, absolutely not. My first was a Pegasus buggy that I got at a pawn shop at age 14. Every part of the car was completely wore out and if you were able to achieve a 12 minute battery run without stopping to work on something it was a miracle. My next car was a Tamiya Lunch Box monster van and it was so much more enjoyable because it was new and I put it together.

Honestly even buying a used car you are likely to be into it for the price of a new one because of replacing parts. But parts will probably be upgraded. The important part is that the chassis is in good condition. Wearable parts will probably need replaced on a used car

most racers that are selling a roller to upgrade to the next new model are usually in pretty good shape because they constantly replace parts to stay competitive. USUALLY, lol

Chrome coated shock shaft would be the best… why is that not a thing..? Titanium coating sounds cooler than it works in my usage.

How about the KZbinrs claiming they are buying ebay barn finds and those listing were never on EBAY. Doesn't hurt to clean the pubic hair out of the suspension when you take the pictures. I troll Ebay every morning for the hobby of searching for good deals and never see what these youtubers make videos on.

@@Heathcliff_hensel FB marketplace is always good but Craigslist is just flat out overpriced junk, my point of the comment is there are many youtubers claiming to be buying cars on ebay and they are not.....

Every single one of my nitro cars are second hand, you don't need to buy a new one in my opinion you gotta work on them a little bit but, for the most part if you do it yourself it dosnt cost all that much and you learn too

I bought a used 1/10 truggy online to convert into another vehicle, and it looked alright in the pictures, but when I received it every plastic piece was stripped. I had to replace a lot of plastic that I still needed and ended up spending more than what a new kit cost 😭
