What kind of shoes are those? Do you find those are better than traditional hiking boots?

Brian, you have to have your base pack and body weight down to an lower weight to hike in trail runners. Those are Altras I believe.

@@anitasimmons3599 lol, I'm 250 lbs. I guess those aren't for me then. Out of curiosity though, why do you have to have a lower body weight.

@@Brian-rr3nj trail runners don't have a lot of support or stability. If your BMI is in the good range you may be able to wear trail runners. You could try it out on short trips and condition your body to be able to backpack in them. Everyone is different, so you have to find what works for your wonderful unique body. I don't mean to discourage anyone, I have just seen the results of hikers pushing gear way beyond what it was designed to handle. Hay, I have even done it myself. Best wishes on your hikes.

@@anitasimmons3599 thanks. I hunt here in the Arizona desert in my regular tennis shoes. I can't imagine it'd be that different. I do a pretty fair amount of walking when I hunt and it's pretty rocky and mountainous terrain. I've actually hunted down south near the AZT

@@Brian-rr3nj you may be able to backpack in trail running shoes. My Alras only last about 400 miles backpacking, but I am flat footed, pronated, older and slow. I'm also a vertically challenged female, so I seldom carry more than 20# total in my backpack. My backpacking shoes are a full size larger than my street shoes too. I hope you find a kit that works well for you.
