Dude wow, i've learned this song four different ways over the years and each time I get a little closer to Stone's version. And now you have finally given me all the pieces I was missing. Now I have to practice a few dozen hours to drill these new techniques in and get the muscle memory to play them right. This is a great gift thank you very much Ryan. I'm basically like you, I was a singer in a Pearl Jam tribute band, i sing their songs everyday of my life and Black is my favorite song of all time. and now I can learn to play it properly what an immense gift.
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
a gift both ways because it makes me so happy to hear that :) Any vids of you PJ cover band??
@crazedzealots6 жыл бұрын
This is the middle 20 minutes of our best show and sadly it was also our second to last show. We opened with Release but the video camera wasn't turned on until Alive. I was trying to find the visceral energy of Eddie's voice in his more agressive years from 1990-92 before he hurt his voice really bad in 94. I was so inspired by how he sounded at Pinkpop 92 and from what I heard online nobody else in PJ tributes could sing with that much tension like I could. We practiced for three months then started gigging but after our fifth time on stage my lead guitar player quit and I wasn't going to continue without someone that could sort of play the solo's. Later after the camera was turned off and we did Even Flow, Jeremy and Black we were really all warmed up, and no longer afraid and we killed those songs. When the bass player starts to pop off at the end of Corduroy that's the moment to me where the band really clicked and my guys lost their fear of being in a PJ tribute and began to really have fun. I've spent the last two hours playing Black your way and it sounds so amazing to me but now I can't sing along yet cause i have to think of all the new movements but maybe in a few days i'll be able to do it. You really are a great teacher and I've learned how to play about 20 songs from you through your video's. I think you should reach out to Tim Pierce, Marty Shwartz, and other guitar teachers with huge audiences. They might feature you someday and expose you to their thousands if not millions of viewers. It could change your life just getting on Marty Shwartz or Tim Pierce's video's talking about teaching on youtube.

I have a great idea for you. I think after you release each teaching video to us. I think you should do a second video of you performing the song for us. Great tutorial again. I have a few random questions, as a songwriter, how do you write your melodies and what are your tips for faster picking. I was trying to play even flow but couldnt pick the A string fast enough
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
the tips for faster picking are start slow and go just a LITTLE bit faster each time :) The best melodies are written when they just come to you. The hardest thing to do about anything is start doing it. You'll find that if you just sit down for a half hour you'll come up with SOMETHING with your subconscious, and then you can use your conscious mind to tweak it :) sometimes it's bad. that's ok too just don't show anyone but your mom. that sounds like a fun coffee talk. haven't done one in a while. I am intending to turn coffee talk into livestream once this boy of ours goes back to school!

Can you do an acoustic version of Black by Pearl Jam, please?
@CraigFlowersMusic3 жыл бұрын
The intro is good, but the really great lick, you know, the one that ends with low g then low e? I can hear that it doesn't really start with B then C before going to open G, up to A, back to open G, then low G then low E. Instead, try starting it with open A then B, then open G, A, open G, low G and open E. You'll find that's more correct and sounds better regardless. Just trying to help.
@nelsonw20966 жыл бұрын
Wow Mr Lazer Wolf! Sounds serious. Anyway I was thinking today about the difference between the guitar playing/arrangements used by Gossard/McCready/Vedder vs the Weezer dudes. The Weezer stuff is pretty savage and quite effective while the PJ stuff is way more nuanced and also very effective.
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with you, and add that the weezer stuff is more scientific while the pearl jam is more felt. Weezer songs are DESIGNED to be enjoyable. Pearl Jam songs emerge out of their artistic selves. In my opinion :)
