I love the emotion you show when playing this song. I tried to play this song a couple of months ago and gave up ( I was a rather new guitarist when I tried). I’m determined now though! If there’s one thing I learned from playing guitar it’s that you will mess up A LOT but you just have to keep trying.

@@RyanLendt You were definitely right that there's a ton to learn from this song. The way it plays around loosely with the E shape bar chord add9's and ties in pentatonic licks throughout over a pretty basic chord progression is just all sorts of good material for someone trying to progress after learning the barre shapes.

what a great question Brandon :) I think you can learn a lot from any song... and it's a function of where you are and what you're ready to hear. Its out of my head that you have done majority of the pearl jam's songs but haven't done alive. Do make alive solo..have to prepare for my college fest..its the greatest solo ever written for me after blackbird by alter bridge and sweet child o mine by Slash n God father theme by Slash Pls pls pls pls pls go for alive solo...and especially figure out the 5th and 6th phrase of the solo when vedder comes back in with the vocals and its quite inaudible to listen to McCready's part, don't want that two parts in chords as I have seen in most of the videos...I want clear tab lesson, explain unison bending in core too....rest of all parts i already know...have been learning this solo since 3 months continuously with breaking up in my practice still unable to make it to a end which can make me satisfy by heart..Have seen 80 percent of the videos related to alive's solo on you tube still incompleted ...so much emotions attached to this solo..each n every time I hear the solo I jump up in the air with a total craziness its just an amazing n legendary solo written😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍...

Man I can’t quite playing this tune on my guitar. I keep coming back to this video if I forgot something. But I’m coming up with little tweaks and messing around with verse a little. I freaking love this song. My girlfriends daughter is over at her grandmothers. So this weekend my girlfriend is waking up to this song all night long lol. How long have you been playing Ryan? Have you pretty much always been playing the guitar since you were 12. I mean I am playing nothing else at all but this song all week. Lately When I leave a message on a friends phone I start out with the intro to this. then leave a message:) I haven’t tried played it on an electric yet. Probably because I sold mine a few years ago. But plan on buying one soon. Any advice on the type I should buy. With a budget of about 500.
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
hahah that is amazing with the phone messages! I played on and off from ages 12-18. Baseball was my true passion. Until my first pearl jam concert, I came home and ABSOLUTELY NEEDED to start a band and start figuring out how to write songs. And now, you know, I play for work so I put in 30-40 hours per week, though almost never, I'm afraid, for my own pleasure. for $500, look at fender or epiphone... or Gretsch! You can get a very nice guitar for $500.

I used to have a concert ticket. I could of sworn said Mookie Blaylock as one of the bands playing. Of course that’s Pearl Jam. I lost the ticket, so I’m not sure if it said that. I know Pearl Jam played . Because Nirvana was there. At the time those two bands were not Hugh yet. Nirvana was known, I had never heard of pearl Jam yet. .A bunch of others bands were there. I think it was the first Lollapollaza tour? but not sure. Pearl Jam is amazing live.

Is that how you always play your open A major chord, I play mine with my middle finger on the 4 string on the second fret. Sometimes I play it like that. Like if I’m playing Nirvanas cover of “Man who sold the world” I would rather always play it like that unles I’m doing an A sus chord But when I play it like that, the little E string gets muted does that matter?. It’s not considered a power chord is it? Is there something I can do with my finger to keep it from muting the Litte E string. Oh hey man have you done any Nirvana songs. I would love for you to teach one! If you do one. Just pic your favorite. Surprise us!:)
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
I'll do either with no particular reason :) The E string is the E part of the A chord (of course) which is also represented by the D string second fret. So, whether or not you hear the baby E string, it's still a whole A chord. Nirvana I would like to get more into, and we shall, thank you for the suggestion green guy ;)
@theseeker44196 жыл бұрын
Of course E is the fifth of the A major. Which I learned from you, what makes up a major chord. :)
@bellowl5 жыл бұрын
For some reason I've always played A with my pinky on the B string, ring finger G, middle finger D. It bugs me because I see people (like Ed) playing with pointer on the D and leaving the pinky free to play around with. I feel like my fingers are too fat to play it that way :D Hope that makes sense. Hi from New Zealand!
