These are terrific, Prof. Reeves. I took an Intro to Church History course last semester that ended at the Reformation. It covered Luther, of course, but was unable to provide the detail you're giving us in these lectures. Many thanks, again, for posting them.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I've been into these subjects since I was a colelge student and long before I became a professor, so i guess there is all this data rattling around in my head!

Ryan how does one become a Professor of any subject at a Seminary?

Mostly through toadyism, extortion, and personality:) Seriously, though, it's a long process. Masters work (I have two as well as study at two other universities) and then the highest quality PhD you can achieve. You study in a subject area overall (History or Bible, etc). Seminaries all have relatively the same overall needs for curriculum. When a job comes open you apply and go through a lot of quasi-hazing interviews and then maybe are selected. Then you have ranks within faculty and are assigned courses by the dean. This is where all the so-called fa ukty politics are said to exist but really it's a pretty straightforward process.

Iodocus Trutfetter wrote the famous "speculum iuris", didn't he? (I know, german pronounciation can be difficult: try "Oo-zingan" in your lectures, the 's' in Usingen is "stimmhaft")

I believe that is Trutfetter's work. And I shamelessly try not to overpronounce words and embrace my poor American tongue. But always thankful for those who know the proper way. :)

Ryan Reeves The way you pronounced it just sounded like another german name (Jußingen/Jussingen). I've been listening to your lectures whilst playing chess and had to look up to the screen for the spelling. Nevertheless, as a historian for the early modern period I have to say that I've enjoyed a lot of your uploads so far and learned a lot (i.e. got additional insights, opposing views) - although it obviously isn't ment to spare me time for reading and my own research. Vale! (tuae res agitur)
