OK, to be fair… The united evangelical church of Germany (from the Prussian union onwards into the modern EKD).. was the first merger of Lutheran and Calvinistic churches… So to say that the official state church of Germany did nothing to stop the third Reich, is not squarely on the shoulders of Lutheranism to blame.

What's amusing is how 1 John 5:7-8 Trinity addition was removed by Luther in his first German edition of the NT...yet put back in after he died.

I must say I really enjoyed your lecture series. But I have one issue, you are mispronouncing Wittenberg as Wittenborg. The former is a city in Germany, the latter is a university in the Netherlands. The only reason this bothers me is because my last name is Whittenberg which is the Americanized spelling of Wittenberg. As a soldier, I was stationed twice in Germany and I can tell you for a fact, which I would assume you would already know, the E in German is pronounced as an A. Other than that, I find your lectures to be quite informative and educational.

Luther was a Catholic. Luther despised the Protestant and peasant movements. He is consistently mischaracterized in most things I read. Tacking up theses? Unlikely. Many reformers before him were burnt at the stake by “god fearing” Catholic men and women. It is almost an analog to Gaza and the Imperialist, Colonialist creators of the problems in the Middle East. I am not religious, but find their contempt for one another, most appalling.
