I think it depends on your definition of a normal investment, the main difference between ETFs and stocks is the diversification

@RyanScribner4 ай бұрын

@@TheSmartLawyer - SO ETF's and Index Funds are all under the mutual fund category etc.
@LuiggiChampan3 ай бұрын
@@mastertrader3491no mutual funds and ETFs are technically two different things. However, they behave the same way with slight differences - ETFs pricing is similar to stocks which is ongoing vs mutual funds quoted at the end of the day, along with other differences. When they're referring to index funds it means that the ETF or Mutual Fund follows one of the index (Dow30, S&P 500, Nasdaq, etc) and therefore it is passively managed as the brokerage firm doesn't assign a manager to pick out investments for the fund. When the brokerage firm does asign a manager to pick out investments for an ETF or a MF, these will no be known as actively managed and charge a higher expense ratio. In the long run, 90% of the managers don't beat the index (mainly the S&P 500) therefore it has been advised to the public to just dump your money in an index with lower expense ratio and better returns. Just got to ride the market.

amazing video! My only question is how do I set up automatic contributions? I have a Schwab account but I read somewhere that if I buy more shares of VOO every month; Schwab charges me $45 for the transaction. Is there a way to avoid this? Would it be better to buy VOO directly from Vanguard?

From Australia here. If anyone knows - If I invest through Vanguard into the S&P500, given it's an American fund, do I have to pay IRS tax and then tax from ATO? Or will I have to fill out a W-8BEN form as I will be classed as a NRA (Non Resident Alien) to free myself of tax obligations to the IRS? Cheers!

Both have the same risk/reward score on Vanguard - but it would likely be more volatile as you have a greater amount of small and mid-cap exposure

@@jchargles7492wrong lmfaoo VOO has a beta of 1. He is correct VTI slightly more volatile with a beta of 1.01 probably because of those mid and smaller caps as mentioned. Makes sense as VTI includes everything in the market not just the S&P 500 as VOO, splitting hairs here. The returns in the long run are very similar. VTI has a lower expense ratio so I'd probably go with that one.
