Absolutely. I think Tesla's biggest problem for the past 6 years is so many people simply have no clue. This is on Musk and Tesla. (My neighbors are still waiting for my Tesla to need a new battery or catch fire, but they know all about the E Hummer. I thought maybe they were big GM fans. Nope. TV commercials during Dodgers baseball games.) I also drive in Los Angeles. Trip out to LAX in heavy traffic? With FSD? No problem. I've been driving FSD for four years and knew very little about the standard features on every Tesla. FSD has really arrived. I use it every day. It's brilliant. You do have to pay attention. What can happen is you could just be watching and trust it a bit too much. My Model Y drove right over a huge rock, cost me $1200 for a new wheel and tire. I watched it do it. Early in the morning, but obvious. But this is rare. It is very calming to drive a Tesla long distances. I've gone coast to coast twice. A couple I met yesterday went though Canada with theirs. If you're a nerd? Absolutely spend the extra $8k. If you mostly just drive to work and places you're familiar with, and feel like you don't want it... then don't get it. However, when they give you a free month, do some driving, go someplace that will take at least an hour. Experience it. Soon this is going to be standard. Me? I'm a nerd but I can also get distracted and miss my exit, so I enjoy it keeping me from making those mistakes. The Robotaxi event I found slightly curious. That week I drove about 300 miles all FSD, including right past the Warner Brothers Studio Lot where the event was held. I paid $70k for my Model Y. I knew it was a the peak. No problem. I wanted to be part of the experiment. Do pay attention to the referral information. I took my friend into to the Tesla store in a mall. The clerk asked why he wanted to buy a Tesla. He pointed at me and said, "Because my neighbor won't stop talking about it!" The clerk didn't say, "Oh then he's your referral." And talk to Tesla owners. Almost everyone of them will say it's like driving a brand new car every day. For me this is four years.

I've never gotten anything close to 276 miles of range at 70 mph in my 2020 Model Y Long Range (dual motor). 3.85 mi/kWh? I get more like 2.4. Not complaining. What I have done when I wanted to drive routes where there are no Superchargers, is I slow down to about 50, pull out of everyone else's way, and turn off the AC (this was in the Navajo/Hopi Nation on a 100°F(38C) day.) Instead of arriving (or not) at Holbrook, AZ with -15 miles of range, I got there with +15 mile of range. I charged up, then unplugged and crawled in the back for a very comfortable night. Better than any hotel or motel, unless you want a shower. No one gives a Tesla parked near a Supercharger a second look. The other thing to consider is ideally you only charge up to 80% and don't go below 20%, but I regularly go to 15%. So right there you're only using 60% of the potential battery charge. For my desert run I did charge in Blandings, Utah to 99 or 100%. What's really neat is that by the second year the battery will have lost about 2% of it's capacity. This will be the biggest drop over the lifetime of your Tesla. I didn't and you won't even notice. After that it's pretty consistent. There are 2012 Model Ss with 300,000 miles on them, original battery. And Supercharger stops are a chance to relax. I'll sometimes go for a 150kW charging location instead of the faster 250kW so I can take a nap, or go to a store. For my 2020 Model Y LR that I paid $70k for I paid this year for registration $650. (I guess I'm paying more because of my orginal purchase price.) These fees should be included in range cost calculations because gas prices including road taxes include them. It wouldn't matter to me if they came out close or my Tesla cost me more, it's such an amazing car that it'd be worth it.

Good recap Ryan. For a simplified comparison to gas, for an efficient EV like a Model 3, I take the all in $/kW (total electric bill $ with taxes, fuel and transmission surcharges, etc.) and take that x10 to compare to local gas $. For example we are around 11 cents/kWh all in rn in KS (allot of wind power). That compares roughly to $1.10/gal gas.
@chrisbrzon39172 ай бұрын
The math is ~335 Wh/mi , so 1 kWh lasts ~ 3 miles. A comparable gas car runs 30 mpg. 30/3 ~ 10 x factor electricity $/kWh to $/gal. equivalent.
@ganeshdore2 ай бұрын
@@chrisbrzon3917 3 miles per KWH is correct. In Calif , Home charging is 25c a KWH off peak . ( some places 36c a KWH at home ) Thus energy cost of EV is 8.3 Cents a mile...to 12c a mile. Calif gas is $3.75 a gallon. 30 mpg Corolla equals 12.5 cents a mile.... Downtown SanFrancisco ..15 cents a mile at $4.50 a gallon. This is how you do the math. The cost of both electricity and gas in your area makes moving make sense. Less than $3 per gallon here, and regular electricity is .12 cents kwh. Off peak EV charging rate for home is .03 cents kwh. Also the 80% suoercharging rule is plenty in California. California has 3 times the land area as Georgia, but about 15 times the supercharger stations. We have large swaths of land with no superchargers, especially in the southern portion of the state. It's all getting there though.

Just a friendly advice. The Tesla has a lot of distractions and the software is very buggy. It frequently makes violent manoeuvres and demands your attention. I don’t know how experienced your daughter is, but it can be ha handful even for a very experienced driver when it starts acting up. It may work ok in a warm climate with little rain, but if you live in a place where the roads are slippery and the cameras get constantly fouled by whet roads, snow etc. I would consider a car that is easier to drive.
@aidanhagley88052 ай бұрын
Tesla cars are not made to order. They keep the costs down by only having a few options on the cars. Once you order you are then allocated a car matching your required specs, which has already been manufactured. If you order a spec and there is no more cars to be allocated you then join the que for that spec, so as they roll of the production line they are allocated in order of the que.

However, Tesla did send me all the paperwork mostly already filled out so the process was quick and easy and I walked out of the county tax office with my license plates in hand. Slower charging above 80% is NOT designed to preserve long-term battery health. That's just your guess, and it's wrong. That is true of NMC batteries (they recommend charging to only 80% for local driving to preserve the battery) but not lithium batteries. In all batteries, electrons have a molecular parking space--a physical location where they are kept. Compare this to a giant empty parking lot. The first cars in can park anywhere. The last 10% to 20% of cars (electrons) have to drive around for a while to find a space. That's it. No other reason.

I'm paying 11 cents per kilowatt hour and I don't even notice a difference in my electric bill even with two EVs. By contrast in the summer when my home AC is on my electric bill will double compared to winter. But even better is no oil changes and all the stuff they talk you into when you get your oil changed. That's the big savings for me. We got a Tesla Model 3 in Jan. of 2022 and still have had no repairs or what could be considered maintenance. Washer fluid is the only consumable other than electricity. Even the tires lasted longer than the same tire did on my old Cadillac ATS, about a third longer. The problem with that math is that your are charging beyond 80% and draining the battery below 20%. This is expressly against the owners manual instructions. If you read your OM, you can only use 60% of the battery for driving. Charging over 80% shortens the battery life. Draining the battery beyond 20% shortens the battery life. So in reality you can only drive about 180 miles of average driving before you need to recharge. I see video after video of folks overcharging and over discharging the battery. Claiming long ranges without a clue that they are wearing the battery out. Considering the cost of a battery replacement, you'd think common sense would apply but sadly most are clueless or don't care.

Before i bought my Tesla model Y 18 months ago i wish i knew Tesla was going to devalue it by 50%! I paid just shy of $60,000 for my model Y in April 2022. Today, even though it is in like new condition with 27,000 miles, i remind you only 18 months old, the resale value is now half the purchase price!!! Only $28,000!!! I was going to buy a Cybertruck to replace my diesel truck BUT NOT NOW! I'll wait 18 months to buy A USED Cybertruck at HALF PRICE!!!

Unless you’re going to trade every year, it doesn’t really matter this thing’s gonna last close to half 1,000,000 miles

If you're going to keep the car to drive for around 5 years, it doesn't matter if it devalues or not, it doesn't change the quality of the vehicle you got. I can buy a piece of bread for $5 today and next week it's gonna be $2. But it's still bread the value doesn't change what it is. If you do plan on selling the car after 5 years it's not going to make that much of a difference between an undervalued tesla vs regular used value anyways, difference is just a few thousand dollars off

@@Jake-dh9qk Sorry, my 2019 RAM 3500 cost $65k and I can sell it today for, wait, $65K!!! Fact is Tesla's depreciate faster than any other car on the market today. Why? Because Tesla does not want competition for new car sales? Or? Lets focus on the facts, not conjecture. Why did my car lose half its value in 18 months? Like new condition on any gas vehicle in today' market simply does not lose that much value in such a short period of time. Why? Logical answers only please.

@@Shmack_ What state of charge was your pack in at the time? If you're only getting 70kW it's most likely because you're likely at a high state of charge (i'm guessing at around 50-70% or so by the looks of things) 250kW is the maximum discharge rate for Long Range cars. Standard Range cars top out at 175kW. Both will generally hold that for about the first 7-10% of the charge. They'll gradually ramp down when the pack gets fuller. 70kW at say, 50-70% is about right for the charging curve. The other cause could be because you arrived at a supercharger without navigating to it. I know, sounds weird, but navigating to a supercharger on the MCU (the screen in front of you) causes the car to enter a pre-conditioning mode, where it gets the battery to the temperature it likes to be in to charge. If you forget to do this, especially on a cold day, the car will siphon off some the power from the charger to heat the pack up to the right temperature. The battery usually likes to sit at between 40-45Deg C (about 80-100 Deg F or so) when DC fast charging, so if the pack is too cold, it'll heat it up at the charger. If you're going to a Supercharger, even if you know where the charger is, it's always a good idea to navigate to it to get the battery ready to go.

THIS PERSON KEEPS SAYING THAT THE SELF DRIVE SYSTEM " IS NOT PERFECT " THAT IS EXTREMELY WORRYING!!! THATS DEFINITELY NOT A ANSWER I NEEDED TO HEAR !!! I WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE BUYING ANY TESLA VEHICLE!!! 🤨👎👎👎.
@audistik11992 ай бұрын
Alan, nothing like this is never perfect. One can have a so-called ideal definition of a “perfect” system, but more often than not that exists in one’s mind but not in reality. Every mechanical and electrical device will eventually fail, and one modeled after human behaviors can eventually encounter some random variation or circumstance that is not well modeled or never been seen,(like being hit by a meteorite.) So, the real question to ask is what is the probability of FSD crashing and you dying or being injured or just damaging the car compared to the average person. If it is better, (fewer of those outcomes) then you’re better off with FSD. Then you might factor in the convenience or value of being driven by someone or something, which is a separate personal choice.😢

Most people with a home can survive charging an EV with a standard 120v outlet, especially if driving only 40 or 50 miles, or less per day. Using a 240 volt dryer outlet in the garage can work. Liftgate needs to be adjusted, rear spoiler needs to be replaced, squeaky fan at the front of the car needs to be replaced, seatbelt are rattling inside the car and needs to be soundproof or replaced And steering wheel stitching is coming away, and last but not least the squeaky wheels / tires ……because they left the stickers on the Michelin tires during manufacturing which causes the wheels to squeak as the sticker is attached to the bead on the inside of tires and rubs up against the inner part of the wheels.
