Seeing how Ryan's video presence has improved over the last few years is impressive. From barely wanting to be on camera to this is a massive leap. The intonation and explanations are spot on. Thanks. Find this, as a non techy, easy to follow and very interesting al aided by your presentation. Keep them coming.

I can't imagine the challenges of NOT having a working water maker. Thanks for explaining it so well

Having enough water tankage plus Backup Water Jugs, just in Case, along with Rainwater capture (pretty easy to set up, just let it rain for 15 minutes to wash the dust out of the air, before collecting (then filter it into your water tank), and it really isn't that much of an issue tbh, though it does impose getting a bigger boat to cope with the tankage for water, plus good Reserve of Diesel. That can have a significant benefit as well, as with good tankage positioning, balancing the boat just means moving water between tanks. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

Currently installing a DIY water maker on my boat .. last major wish list item before I head south again. It has been a learning process for sure. Knowing where every item is installed and how it functions means it is one less thing I need to worry about when cruising. Pretty confident that I could repair or rebuild one from scratch with parts available almost anywhere.

Love this, longer term review. The replaceability of parts from anywhere is noteworthy for sure. My boat came w a Spectre but it has been pickled since 2016 … I will see how functional it is. Seawater pro is now on my radar. Appreciated!

Nice update. I may get a Seawater Pro Watermaker, if the Boatbuilder will install it for me, but I think they do Spectra, and that stacking High pressure pump that has low electric consumption, may turn out to be not much difference in price as a ew fitment. They also seem to do a nice Washer Dryer, that is vented, that seems to be reliable enough to last well, so am looking forward to your Washer Dryer update as well. In the past, this is the sortnof stuff I used to love DIYing, heck even timber on deck ! (yep I was nuts), but getting stuff fitted during construction has increased its appeal in recent years due to disability. Ho Hum, Keep up the Great Work, Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob - now planning on an Island Packet God Willing, built in F👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️👍👍lorida, to be Registered in the BVI (easy peasy as a British Subject ) and delivered to the BVI for me, to complete the Boat Registration there. Thank you for this most timely follow-up review. I am currently installing the 24 Volt, two vessel version of the Sea Water Pro, which we chose based on your initial two videos and I have nothing but positive things to say about the company’s customer service. Like you, I got the no-panel version but decided to create my own for ease of operation. This meant that I needed to change a few parts and even though it’s been about a year since I purchased our unit, the exchange process was painless. I was told to just order what I needed from the website and upon return of whatever I didn’t need, they would credit my credit card the full value of those parts. Questions get answered expeditiously so A+ all around to SeaWater Pro

I'm aiming to go with a seawater Pro watermaker for my next boat. I'm wondering though, have you thought about adding remineralisation filters in the galley, as RO does strip out essential minerals from water ? There do appear to be some nice setups, that have their own Tap outlets for installing by the sink. I think they get advertised as thankless filtration systems, and some can include a RO cartridge as well, though I think I'd stick with a seperate dedicated watermaker then plumb the water from the water tank through a split pipe system, with one of the split heading to the remineralising filters. I'd like to see some non manufacturers reviews before diving into those however. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 🤔👍✨️✨️✨️

I'm up on Vancouver Island and we get lots of rain, I have a Spectra and I'm going to put a T at the water intake and leave the thru hull Shut and collect water from my dodger and run it thru the water maker. I figure that it's pretty clean water maybe some bird poop once in while but I think that the filters will last a Long time and shouldn't have to run the flush for that long. I'm going to talk to Spectre and see what they say! I would think that you wouldn't have to flush it unless you have used it. Now I've gone many weeks without flushing and I'm gonna have to get a new membrane! That was a great video!

This was a great review seeing how it has actualy met the test of time. Question would there be any advantage adding a charcole 3rd filter to the main inbound side (mainly thinking of tast)?
@allynonderdonk7577 Жыл бұрын
I wanted to say for like 10 amps more per hour you could double your output. 1hp dc motor usually draws 80 amps. You would need a different pump head, motor, and an extra pressure vessel. You could get those on your own for cheap. SV Adventurer did a video called "How to make your own 30 gph water maker." The parts are listed in the more and comments section.
@just-dl4 ай бұрын
That would be a massive drain on the battery…but, to your point, for a given amount of water, it might be fewer overall amphours. But for shore based, that would be worth the extra effort.

The thing that gets me with these budget diy system reviews (of any category) by sailing channels, many jump at the 8k off the shelf systems when offered by the manufacture, which goes against the pros mentioned in the review, I.e. "easy to obtain parts anywhere"

Given the number of systems on offshore cruising boats, readily availability of parts is a a must. Although more systems are available for small sailing boats, it seems the reliability and complexity still leave a lot to be desired. Even then fully accessible and replaceable items and services, needs to be incorporated into yacht design and manufacture..

@stanleybest88334 ай бұрын
There is one glaring problem. It's too big and discombooberated a fresh water maker. Too complicated. Too breakdowny. Many of your boats who need one are around + - 30 feet. These things have been around for decades, and some of them were hand powered. The most important task is needed drinking water and the most important condition is reliability. A suitcase water maker? It's demands, high tech, and size need to change.
