Hey guys, just wanted to give you some really big kudos on your commitment to safety onboard the Polar Seal. I follow several sailing channels and yours is the only one to stress the importance of life jackets and AIS beacons underway with safety lines rigged during the night watches. It is so easy for something untoward to happen unexpectedly and rapidly and I commend you for your diligence. Good job!!!

Thanks Bob. Its really hard some times... when it gets warm and the weather is nice, putting kn the lifejacket is the last thing you want but its good habbit. Ryan

Hi, thank you for the video. I discovered your channel totally by chance-or perhaps not! I live in Crete where I moved following the death of my wife 16 years ago. I realised a while ago that possibly, were it not for my grief, that I missed an opportunity to realise my dream so I'm trying to sell my house, buy a boat and after rediscovering my sailing skills, head West, through the straits of Gibraltar and head to the Caribbean via the Canaries and Cape Verde. So thank you, an amazing coincidence and I look forward to viewing the rest of your programmes.

Sophie, I have lived a life of traveling the country and the world, and I have had to miss many family funerals. The family that knows me knows my heart and how I feel about them, and they have great understanding. I continue to share my life with them from afar, just as you do. I'm sure they love you and understand.

Beautifully expressed from your heart. Yes, it is as if something has to ‘die’ to enable something else to be born, or blossom, and each reconnection is different from the last because of the space / time / experience in between. There is something ethereal in those moments. To quote Ram Dass, it is as though ‘We are walking each other home.’

Almerimar is definitely an odd place! We we're only there 2 days (sailing East about the same time as you were sailing West) I cant say we took to it the way you did. We have taken to Cartagena though where we are wintering now so we'll have the same sort of feelings leaving here. Good thing though is that it's more about the community than the place and I'm sure we'll meet up with sailing friends again as will you.

You guys always make great videos, but that video was exceptional. It showed yet another side to your adventure I had not considered, "the good-byes". Thanks for putting this perspective into a video and sharing. Also wish I could be as relaxed as Ryan when leaving the dock embarking on a longer passage, my mind would be racing with thoughts at that point.
@RyanSophieSailing4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! Thanks! Ryan isn't always known for being "relaxed" (he's getting better though) but we've gotten "acceptable" at coming in and out of the dock. Also, you may have noticed that there was ZERO wind that day! Haha :) /Sophie

Hi guys, so I'm a bit late to the R&S party so am playing catch up, but this episode has really moved me. I can see the sadness you have at moving on and saying goodbye to these strangers that became good friends, and losing a loved one is always hard. I'm going through a few changes in my own life at the moment, all because of this stupid pandemic that we're having to live through now, so this struck a nerve with me. New friends are just waiting to be found... Sending (belated) love and best wishes to you. x.

Hi Ryan and Sophie. Glad to see that you had a good crossing. I made it to Barbados on Dec 11 and then went on to St. Vincent and the grenadines and I’m currently in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. I’m leaving in the morning and will be sailing right past you. Plan to stop in St. Pierre before continuing north. Not sure if you are planning to head N or S from there, but if N perhaps we will bump into each other along the way. My Yacht is Hydro Therapy. Enjoy your stay in the Caribbean.

Almerimar is very cheap, but a bit isolated. Perfect for sailors, but I don’t know how good it would be land-based. Besides, the sea of plastic behind isn’t super nice... but the southern coast of Spain has plenty of beautiful places! Check out Estepona and la Duquesa. We love those places :) /Sophie

Sophie, I know your tell now...when you are unhappy you pull at your hair and scratch the back of your head...goodbyes are never easy, but don’t let it discourage you from making connections...it’s what life is about...not the things you have or the money in your pocket...after all, at the end, we all leave...it’s up to us how much at peace we are when we do...and I know Big girls don’t cry, but it’s ok to when it’s real...hey Ryan...I hope you hugged her good and long after the camera turned off...

There are Canon corporate repair facilities. I would ask them for a repair estimate, and if you explain that you are a working professional, they can expedite that for you.
@RyanSophieSailing4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’ve done that before. The repair was 400€ (to replace the microphone jack port), it took them 12 weeks and I had to leave and pick the camera at the same place. The repair was guaranteed 6 months, and yeah... it broke again. But now it’s just shutting off randomly. Salt air isn’t kind on cameras :/

Both Sophie and I work remote from the boat. People seem to finance things in different ways. Some of them are just out for a year or two. Some sold companies. Some are making it work on a very tight budget. Just like normal land life everyone has their own ways and their own story. Ryan
