Harley customers are their own worse enemy. Imagine if they embraced the V-rod. Harley would have had a 100 hp liquid cooled twin bagger in like 2009.

As a former harley-davidson rider, I'll choose my 2002 Honda Gold Wing. 1,832cc flat-six liquid-cooled engine that delivers 117 hp at 5,500 rpm and 121 lb-ft torque with peak power at 4,000 rpm. Electric adjustable pre-load rear mono-shock, Adjustable clutch and brake levers, linked brakes, shaft drive, reverse, remote trunk and side bags. All stock from the factory in Ohio, USA! Yes, a 2002 Goldwing was so far ahead of these motorcycles coming out now.

As to the pricing between the brands... the rubber meets the road with the financing. HD average finance % is 12% with most dealers adding at least 2% (points) to that 12%, jumping it up to 14% starting for buyers with decent credit. I have found most Indian dealers are financing their bikes at 7.99% for those with decent credit. This alone will make up for most of the price difference between the brands.

I rode a chief bobber and street bob as well as lowrider s before making my purchase. I could instantly tell based on my “butt dyno” the Indian accelerated fastest. particularly in sport mode. It also had better stock suspension and a better fit and finish. It also has better brakes and many other things stock v stock. For me at the time what killed the Indian was aftermarket support as well as availability in general. Because ultimately, no matter how good the Indian was there was still a lot to be done for it to really be the bike I want. Let alone not being able to choose color I wanted much less other options unless I wanted to wait minimum 6 months and have a bike made to order from Indian. Things like better seat, exhaust, different bars, potential touring setup, with preferable quick release windshield and removable bags. On and on. When I was in the market for a bike, it was next to impossible to find anything for an Indian. And aftermarket upgrades for the Harley were plentiful. I chose the Harley, and in the long run am glad I did. I enjoy modifying my bike and despite having to deal with less than satisfactory oem parts, there is a plethora of aftermarket support to get you where you want to be. Plus the Harley while still admit-tingly rough in some way for the price, had a nostalgic “feel” that Is important to me on a motorcycle. Call me crazy, as I’m sure I’m the minority on this. But I felt the Indian was too refined. Little things like how easy and light the clutch was to pull, bothered me. Also the lack of the aggressive and audible upshifts. Preferred analog or no gauge above digital with driving modes. I’m confident I don’t need modes to drive in wet or less than favorable driving conditions. Good tires and throttle control go a long way. Ultimately I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on anything by getting my Harley, especially after TBR, cam and tune. Also With better suspension now too. Surely give that Indian a run for its money now 😅

Where I live it's become Harley by default. There are no longer any of the big bore Japanese cruisers imported (Goldwing aside) and the Indian dealer dropped the brand due to low sales. The only other option is the Triumph Rocket 3 but I don't see that as a viable long distance tourer (no decent touring storage or a touring screen). So, like it or not, it looks like it's a Harley in my future when my Triumph Thunderbird gives up the ghost!

@@Dirk1961-l7y I installed Wilbers on my Road Glide and they really made a very noticeable difference. Can't believe that HD sells these high $$ bikes with only 2"-3" of suspension travel. That is really a punishing ride and, as you said, after spending big dollars you'd expect something that worked better. I have two other bikes. A BMW R1200RT and a Yamaha FJR 1300. Those bikes are a pleasure on a long ride. The Road Glide is too....NOW. It shouldn't have to take $2500-3000 to make a bike ride the way it is supposed to. OH, the Road Glide has 117,000 miles on the clock so I really do like riding it. It's just that suspension is SO very important to get a good riding experience and HD R&D should take an Indian for a long ride to see how a proper factory setup performs.

I have to disagree with you there. Yea, Harley has more dealerships, to expect Indian to have equal to or more dealerships than Harley at this point in Polaris’ history of owning the brand is absurd. However, when it comes to customizations, that’s really no longer an issue when you consider the actual customizations generally being made to Harleys, Indian is right there with them at this point. Yes there are more third party options but let’s be real, most Harley guys are buying all the same aftermarket parts and if they’re not the same they generally look the same. Very few (in comparison to the whole) of people “customizing” their bikes aren’t very original. Which is crazy because everybody always talks about customization options being so vast but then they “customize” their bikes with the same stuff everybody else is using. Generally speaking the biggest differences you see between Harley’s is the color of the bike itself.

@@myronmosley2167 at least you can disagree without being an ass! I’ll talk to people like that. No doubt the aftermarket for Indians is growing each day and continuing to improve. Still a bit short! And honestly they don’t have the number of dealers but are spaced fairly well. Could probably still get help most places if you needed. I think Harley is still far ahead in looks! That’s very subjective! The competition is good and very close right get now. Harley has upped the game to where it’s splitting hairs at this point.

It would be Indian hands down for me if I had a dealer closer than 3 hours away. There are 5 Harley dealers between me and the nearest Indian dealer. If I have an issue, my local dealer will come pick up my bike. If I have an issue with an Indian, I'm renting a trailer and spending all day driving to take the bike to the dealer and then probably another day of that to go pick it up. I wish Polaris would enable their dealerships to work on Indians. Plenty of Polaris dealers near me.

When you mentioned the right foot heat.. its the placement of the header pipe. I get it on my 22 Chieftain with the Thunderstroke motor too. I notice it more when I have the lower close-outs attached to the crash bars.. but when I take them off I don't notice it as much. So I think the lowers trap that heat and it can really feel uncomfortable on your right ankle. And when you compared prices.. you weren't exactly honest on that comparison. Base vs base models.. you can get into the base Chieftain with the 108CI power plus for $26,599. So Indian base model actually comes in $1250 less than the HD base model.

Though I prefer the HD touring line for engine character, better low speed handling, & better throttle body response. You can’t go wrong with either brand. I do think $3k for the 112 Power Plus for a 4 HP/ 5 ft-lbs increase is not a good deal. @ True that…. I should’ve clarified when I made that comment that yes Harley did come out with a full digital dash but I believe Indian now is putting on side sensors and other means of traffic alertness, as well as just the sheer performance parts on the bikes… Like you mentioned inverted forks and of course Brembo brakes, electric windshields, heated and cooled seats, full locking saddlebags with the key fob. I just think for the money you’re getting more machine by going Indian

I did a testdrive on a 2021 used Roadmaster…it wasn’t that for me. Bad brakes and everything was rattling on the fairing…(plus they gave me ‘a tip’ trade in price for my RKS 2023). I will stick to HD for the rest of my live….The base model 2025 SG is raised €1200. Now €38.300,00. A SG black/black does €41.000,00!!!!! Here in holland. Maybe add a “delivery' fee from €700 to that. I don't buy with loan so a new one is out of the question for me. Just bought a gorgeous slightly used, Industrial Yellow/Vivid Black RGS from 2024 (it saves -€10,000:-)

I know a guy with Wilbers on his RKS but isn’t satisfied. It does cost €3300 here all in. So I swap my (classic RK with 1” more travel)) 13” on my every bike and this is oke in holland and Luxembourg But when I travel in other countries it is harsh with the bad roads in Germany, tsjechië, italy, Hungary and so on… I change bikes every year so it is not worth to change for me..

Harley has closed the gap to where it’s a matter of preference now. They still have a mile lead in looks, dealer network, and aftermarket. Specs and tech are so close. I’ll always feel Harley wins in looks by a mile

Love watching the videos especially your trips. I agree competition is good but at what price for Indian. I am an Indian rider and like so many current Indian owners were drawn to them because of the look and styling. This has changed year on year and the new power plus bat faring is a direct copy of the HD not sure why they would cut it back so much. When you view one up close you see the size of the deflectors that are on each side how can the new bat fairing be a better aerodynamic shape when the old one had not deflectors at all? Also the lack of colours is a surprise some that are missing are again iconic colours that made Indian unique. Like for like HD will still win, here in the UK there are over 52,000 registered HD's and Indian have sales of around 6,000 in 10 years. Since 2021 sales have been declining since they started changing the styling from the iconic look. The main surprise was the Chieftain it should of been called the Challenger Classic. Still love the look but its not a classic Indian look. Their marketing and lack of customer service is heading down the same road as Victory?

Indian motorcycle company died. It's disturbing that they are allowed to act as if there is some kind of link between Polaris and Indian motorcycle company. They should have kept the Victory brand but I guess the gamble worked because people bought it.
