There is the French word "WE". We don't own HD anymore. I got so sick and tired of cleaning my motorcycle (2 days). I got sick and tired of sweating to death at red lights due to heat from the cylinders and exhaust (I live in the deep south). 2024 CVO priced at 55K. Starter bikes start at 30K. Change breather, pipes, forced to buy a tuner, must be dyno 'ed and breather - add 3K+. This might get you from 105HP to 115HP. HD most uncomfortable bike on the planet over distance. One is forced to buy a new seat with back rest. another 1.5K. Add highway pegs another 300. Why would anyone buy a HD anymore? Now the 2025 come with custom paint. Salesmen tried to tell me the paint has always been an extra depending on the color one chooses. I call BS. I have never see color defined on the price invoice. NEVER. F'N LIAR. Now the 2025 are 33K. If you want a different color for a starter bike. Add destination, doc fee, and set up fee another 1.5K. Then add state tax another 2.5K = 37K for a starter bike in 2025. Now add in the pipes, intake, tuner, dyno, seat - 43K.. Think I will buy a 2025 Gold Wing DCT.

When it comes to "unreliability" and the famed oil leaks of Harley's, the problem isn't the machine... the problem today stems from the rider simply not maintaining and riding the bike. When you put the bike away in the garage for 11 months out of the year, then pull it out on a summer day and find it is dead with failed hoses and oil leaks and everything else, the reason is that it has simply been sitting for too long. Bikes need to be ridden, or else they get sick and die. They are effectively living things.

I agree with you, it’s the in between riding that is it for me and not how fast I can get from point A to point B! Why go see America if your only concern is how fast you can pass it by? Bison, turkeys, bears, deer and antelope everywhere, mountain and canyons, lakes and streams to take a dip in, t-shirts to full leathers when going from 80’s to the high 30’s on top of the mountains…enjoy the ride!

About this idea of being visible to other drivers. I've been riding for 50 plus years. I started on 1970's Triumphs in New Zealand. (Harleys weren't available in great numbers back then) I looked like an outlaw, except when I was on a Friend's Honda, or similar. Then, I would wear what the average Honda rider wore. I noticed VERY quickly that there is a night and day difference between how car and truck drivers 'SEE' me. On my Triumph Bonneville, wearing mostly black, I literally saw drivers do a double take and then detour to avoid me. On the Honda, it was like I'd become the invisible man! I had people eyeball me on the Honda and then behave like I wasn't there! On the Bonnie, I had people eyeball me and by the time their brain had evaluated what the eyes were looking at, they'd already begun moving, but universally, they would panic stop and look at me, with a half scared look as I rode past. This was dumb, because I'm just as frail as the next rider and would be hurt just the same if the car hit me, but the fact is that NOBODY had any trouble SEEING me when I was riding the Bonnie and wearing my all black outfit. I see the same thing these days, on my Harley. If you look like a hood, they'll see ya just fine.

I have the same kind of love affair with my Yamahas.... In '02, I bought a 79 XS650 that makes a Harley look SMOOTH..... I've rebuilt it from the ground up and ADORE that machine! It has SO MUCH CHARACTER, than most newer bikes just DON'T. When I was rebuilding the XS, I bought a '14 Bolt - and It's a HOOT! More reliable, but it has it's own character, too. Hopefully, I'll get the XS finished this year and have BOTH for FUN!

I think that one of the reasons that we wear black is because of tradition which started because those old bikes Panheads and Shovelheads were a mess to ride. The oil leaked and got all over the bike which caused dirt to stick to both the bike and rider. Those old bikes were also not as reliable as they are today, so you would frequently find yourself wrenching at the side of the road, lying in the dirt and getting oil and crud on you. So black didn't show all that. In fact the dirt and oil only added to the character of the leather. So black was the preference and it became a tradition. I still have my first Harley, and old 79 Shovel. So that is an educated guess.

The first point is correct Harley Davison riders don’t wear protecting gear and that is why most of the time when they get in an accident they get really hurt or get killed. I remember first going on charity rides with Harley riders. I was on a Sportster and a guy with his wife in front of me on a Heritage or Road King spun on some rocks on a curve and then he was just gone! Shot down a hillside covered with tall trees and weeds. I slammed on my brakes and a few of us jump down the hill. He kept it upright down a steep hill because he said he wasn’t letting his wife feel a scratch. It was amazing. We pushed the bike back up the hill and pegs are bent, windshield broke and Other damage but they were fine. We all get to next stop and everyone started pulling the extra money from their pockets and putting it on his bike. Harley riding is a brotherhood. Outsiders joke but will their fellow riders pay for damages and help? I think not.

All Bikers help each other out. We all share one thing and that's the fact that we've all gone down at some point, we've all hurt ourselves on our machines wether in a parking lot or on the road. We all care about the well being of other riders. To hell with wether you ride a Chinese, Japanese, American, or a damn moon bike that don't matter. Friends will chip in and help each other out to help fix a bike or with medical expenses. It happens all the time, and I'm no to stranger to helping or getting help from folks I ride with. Now most people who don't own harley have no need to ask for help from their friends be cause most bikes from every other manufacturer can be had for less than $25,000. All that to say, it's nice that the rider and his wife are okay, and you got to witness some upstanding riders pitch in to help. But it's not even close to exclusive to harley riders, not one bit.

Going down your list 1) I very rarely don't wear all my gear. 2) Why do I wear black? a) It looks cool b) most leather by default is black or brown, especially if its protective (as opposed to just for show). 3) Why do i clean my motorcycle? Because I want her to look pretty! I don't get how people don't get this one. Granted, there are those that can't ride without cleaning first, to that I say to each their own; I'm usually OK cleaning her once a monthish. On the note of carrying a microfiber rag with you? I reccomend it, but not necessarily for your bike; you're going to be running into enough bugs, you'll want something for your visor. 4) The price. Yeah you got us there... Frankly it's kind of a fluke my bike ended up being a Harley, as I really had no brand loyalty going in. All that said, I cant reccomend or justify buying new. Buy used, and i wouldnt go over $10k at a dealership personally. 5)When it comes to "how fast" a motorcycle (or any vehicle for that matter) can go, ive never really understood the appeal. Acceleration I get, but thats going to be better than a car no matter what you're riding. But why do I need a motorcycle that can go 250mph or whatever when the speed limit in my state tops out at 65? 6) Biker bars, I share the sentiment. I would never for any multitude of reasons. 7) I find for every guy taking a dig at someone on a sportster, there are 10 others that see anyone on 2 wheels as an equal, brand loyalty not withstanding. 8) Fally aparty machines: I didn't know Harley had this reputation going in, and my Deuce has certainty lived up to her name... but idk for me, I sort of love it. It gives my bike character, and I do enjoy wrenching on things and learning as I go. To add to that though, that's talking about a machine that is 20 years old, how long do people expect a bike to operate without mechanical issues? Also, what's wrong with how bikes looked in the 70s/80s? I wasn't even alive then, and i think they look dope as hell, why wouldn't I want my bike to look like that? 9) Maybe I just haven't riden enough Harleys or other motorcycles, I don't find that my Deuce vibrates that much... like it is notable, but it's a motorcycle. Unless you're riding a sport, isn't that kinda what you want? Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. I really miss riding, it's my first year, and it kills me that I'm out of riding g season in Alaska. Can't wait to get on the road again.

doesnt matter what you ride or wear, if someone isnt paying enough attention then thats what it is. I specifically remember riding my royal enfield out to my boat last summer. This bike has a chrome tank, a huge chrome cafe fairing, and its straight piped, the bike is LOUD. I was also wearing white pants and a white and blue checkered button-down and i still almost got ran out of a lane i was in on the interstate.

I have a stock 88", nothing high performance there. I don't need more. I need to sit comfortably and chew up the highway or backroads for as long as I want to ride. I also like the hard bags on my Ultra Classic, two half helmets up top, and a little storage for other things we might bring or buy along the way.

I believe you should ride what you wish to ride. I personally ride a Harley now but had many metrics and loved them all. If you want to take risks more power to ya. I don't want technology I don't need the latest and greatest I want to be able to fix it myself keep it simple and dependable. Have a lot of aftermarket to rebuild if you want i don't get rid of my bikes every couple of years. Metrics unfortunately change too many parts every year and make it difficult to keep it.

My buddy bought a Road King Police in 99. And I've always wanted one. Fast forward to 2024 and my brother bought a 06 Road King. It sat at my house all alone. And well it got the blood flowing. I boought a 03 Road King police in June of 2024. Took my msf course and got my endorsement in July of the dame year. I had 17 miles of back Road rising before my class. A new found love is all I can say. 3700 miles later on my Road King. I wanted the works, heated seat, grips and 6th gear, plus tour pack. What I could afford I headed over to my local deal and bought a 2012 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. It's currently winter and can't wait to ride both bikes. Me and my brother did Twisted Sisters here in Texas last year. Made a few mistakes but nothing drastic on my 03 until the very end. Guy on a crotch rocket verse onto my line coimg around a corner. To avoid a head on collision. I drifted to the right and off the pavement I went. Still being new my thoughts beside oh shit. I didn't panic and didn't tense up. I manage to get back on the road. No front brakes and coasted some and got back to riding. Talked to my older brother who was behind me. Surely that rider came over the double yellow lines. But I didn't let it consume me. By the time we made it back to Bent Rim. It was a great ride. 400 miles in 10 hours on my 03. This year I have my sights on Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo and hwy66 but that journey will take place on my 2012 CVO. At 54 its been a great time and fellow riders I've come across. And like you mentioned Robert Simmons I've always been one to practice on my Road King. You don't know what you don't know. Not saying I know much lol but I practice every chance I ride.

I can answer your initial question with my personal opinion on the brand and why I own several other brands but have 1 older Harley-Davidson that I hang on to. The cult like Harley-Davidson culture makes it so no matter what year or model HD bike you have you can always find parts, even if they need to be aftermarket like S and S. #2 iconic sound and feel of the older bikes. #3 simplicity of the older bikes.

Tradition. I've ridden other brands in the past, mainly because I couldn't afford a Harley. Riding was OK but no connection to the bike, just sitting on the motorcycle. At 66 I finally bought a Softail Deluxe. First time I sat on my bike for the test drive, it felt right. Its only been 7 months but until the weather turned I would go out almost every day. No place special, just around for an hour or two. P.S. I do keep a cloth and spray bottle in the saddle bag.

I have ridden pretty much all the major brands at one time or another. I started on an Allstate moped in the early 60s when I was in school. I had Honda 750, then a Honda shadow, then i had a Yamaha Venturer, then I had a Yamaha Roadstar. The Roadstar was probably the most enjoyable of all the bikes I owned, my wife and I put many miles on it and it is currently in Globe Arizona at my sons father-in-law’s and still being road by him. I don’t own a bike any more but still ride my daughter in laws Sportsters when I get the urge to ride. Living here in the southwest desert limits the amount of gear you can comfortably wear in the heat but when cooler weather arises it’s gear up time. Save your skin and your lid when you can and forget the Harley is best bull shit and ride what ever you choose.

The only problem with chaps is the open part at the private area,,,your legs still get cold when riding,,,they need to invent some type of flap like a loin cloth like the Indians wore,,,something like that you could step into kinda like a diaper with a belt so can tighten it up get it comfortable like you want it and I believe that would work great for keeping the wind and air off your private area and thighs and keep your legs from getting cold

I've rode Japanese motorcycles for a long time and wound up buying a Harley because my brand new Japanese cruisers kept falling apart when my Harley buddies were still going strong. And I actually got more flack after I went Harley from the Japanese bikers than I got from Harley bikers when I rode Japanese. And I ride alone now so it's not about fitting in. Long time rider, 1st HD. I think the community is amazing. No other brand opened up doors like this. Between HOG and just chatting with the stranger on the road there is sense of belonging. I will disagree about updates. No other bike maker has this kind of after market support. Other brands, a bracket is a bracket. In the HD world its a piece of are. Fit and finish is just as important as function.

Why ride a Harley? Raw, grunt torque and sound. Great, unique paint schemes and customization. It's the journey, not the destination. Harley Community is family. 1. Insubstantial Gear. Guilty. Boots always. Jacket (non padded) mostly. Jeans always. Leathers (jacket, chaps), on cooler days. Half helmet mostly. 3/4 helmet on rainy days. Glasses always. Gloves always. 2. Wear Black. I wear a lot of black and brown. Rain gear is Orange Harley. I do wear jeans a lot and khaki cargo pants. I have a favorite rip-stop nylon black jacket that has been sunbleached to grey. 3. Clean bikes. I'm not as bad as others. I do carry microfiber cloths and cleaner. i don't clean every day though. When I look at it, and the first thing I notice is the dirt/grim, I clean. My bikes are beautiful. I like them to look nice. 4. Drinking and Riding. I occasionally have one beer. It's infrequent though. I'll socialize at a bar. One beer. Enjoy the company and the laughs. 5. Flawed, junk. My two ('23 Heritage 114, '24 Ultra Limited 114), are reliable and run great. No oil leaks. Running torque cams in both. They run like a bat out of hell. 6. Connection with my bike. Absolutely. Both have names. They're my girls. They have personality.
