That’s why, when building a new stadium, there are studies to make it so the stadium doesn’t enter in resonance as people jump in rythme.

On being a player on the field during such matches: I don't know how it is in american sports, but for Football it is custom for the teams to switch sides in the second half of the game. So if you faced the ultras in the first half, they're right behind you in the second half. This can get frightening really fast as ultras are known to sometimes throw pyrotechnics at the opposing team.

Welcome to European football, my american friend. Here fans are going crazy about that holy sport. For some of us our team/club is some thing of a religion. And every game especialy on enemy stadium MUST be a show. You see it as a riot or a revolution, we see it as a way to expression our loyalty, respect and support to our team. Sometimes ultras go completly crazy! Even at smaller regional events, it gets extremly loud and energetic and there are a lot of curse words and insults towards the other team and their fans. Some groups are notorious for their behaviour, so sometimes home and guests fans are seperated by legions of police officers in full riot gear and the outside of the stadium is lined with troop transports. But most of the time its energetic but peacefull and after games fans often join for beer. Being with the ultras in one block is an experience of itself! What counts is that everybody has fun! And nobody gets hurt in aby way and i think fireworks are problematic.
@gregorybiestek3431
@gregorybiestek3431 Жыл бұрын
The ultras better not come to the USA in 2026, the police here do not use riot gear and water cannons, they use full body armor, automatic assault weapons, and real cannons. If ultras tried to battle our security in the US quite a number of them would go home in body bags.

as someone who was RIGHT THERE IN THE STADIUM on the final day of the 1990 Championship season, I can promise you so many people even form big soccer cultures cant conveive of what it is like. Closest thing I can imagine is when Marseille was winning theirs - the other great Meditteranean port city wher the working class is treated like total crap. I also found it hilariously coincidental that Olympigue Marselle and SSC Napoli both share the same Azure color ( not actually *blue* - that color is used by Inter, Genoa, Sampdoria, Verona) And Lazio uses wha thte Italians call "celeste" aka Heavenly Blue.

Loved your reaction to the ultras. It was hilarious how you would jump and the shock on your face. There is a video called Ultras our way of life 10,000 subscriber special I would love to see what you would make of this as it shows all sides to being an ultra. I’m English but the Greek Ultras are amazing with all their sports and also I like Ajax ultras in Amsterdam they are great to watch. The ultras make those large banners and use flares, smoke bombs and fireworks. The passion for football clubs is deep rooted and is a generational thing. You should see what it is like at a derby anywhere in Europe it’s really intense. There is a USA VS EUROPE BASKETBALL and most of the European fans they show are Greek.👍

I hadn't seen you come up on my feed for a while - I cant have ALL 127 subscribed channels on all notifications.. I'd be drowning in them! LOL But so glad to see you show up again -- I had forgotten how dreamy your eyes are (blush). BUt as far as Ultras go, ANY group of sports-addled youth can scream loudly etc, but how effective are they at elevating the rest of the home crowd? I know a couple in Italy are amazing in *that* regard, as opposed to just volume [see Napoli ultras - they actually have BOTH curved ends of stadium in different Ultras groups). And then there are the massive unapologetic racists of the InterMilan Ultras -- a massive shame for all of Italy.

The whole point about being loud here is to support your home and intimidate the opposing team (and also, pressure the refs a bit to call in your favor). In Europe, sports is usually much more competitive than in the USA, and teams are more important than the league itself. So you find teams like Olympiacos, BJK, etc with multiple sports divisions and usually people grow up and die as fans of the same club. Gate 7, 13, etc. btw are the gates/entrances to the stadium where you'd (at least historically) find the hardcore fans, so Olympiacos ultras are known as Gate 7 due to... well. Self-explanatory. Fan culture does go overboard though sometimes to the point that I know for heated matches (like any big Athens clubs' games), away fans are not allowed to attend due to past violence between fan groups. Side note, in the previous video, PAOK's chant actually was (roughly) saying that "we'll bring our boys to Athens in spades, and strike fear in them; we'll beat them up in Syntagma (Athens) and Pasalimani (Piraeus)" (Athens&Piraeus having the big 3, AEK + Panathinaikos + Olympiacos, that PAOK hates). :) Still, way better experiences than I've ever had in the States. Home territory *should* be a place where the opponents feel dread, and where the home team feels empowered and loved. Ultras just are a rather extreme expression of that.

Okay, big difference. The testosterone levels rage on mass. In Australia and the USA, you bring the whole family. That makes a big difference. If you bring the whole family, men don't behave like this. Even in Aussie Rules football, where the game is really quite dangerous, the crowd is really loud and excited. Yet it sounds really different. Whole families are there. I think that's the major difference. Football was like this 50 years ago in Australia. The men would go out, get drunk, let their testosterone go crazy, go home, and more like go home and bash and rape the wive and start smashing up the house. Some still do. They are still looking at this to make the sport more family friendly, you it's for to go crazy like then, and then after, what happens then???....

Muhehe. European football stadiums are kind of fortresses. They are split into sectors without any possibility to pass between them. They are fireproof and they can withstand the strongest earthquake although in most of Europe wasn't been any earthquake for thousands of years, because when tens of thousands of idiots start jumping synchronously ait just worse than any known earthquake. But you didn't see anything because the worst ultras are not allowed to entry stadiums. Each great football match means lot of street vandalism, fights with police and between enemy ultras etc.

Hi Ryan, I’ve just subscribed to your channel lately and i do like your content but i do have point out one thing. You talk about europeans as if they are somehow similar in terms of their culture, language and way of life. That could not be further from the truth. Putting the British, French and Spaniards in the same group for instance is like putting Black Lives Matter in bed with the kkk. Thousands of years of wars between European countries has made us realise we have to live together as best we can but we are not the same as each other by a long way. Peace my friend and keep up the good work. Regards Patrick from England

Most of these are just loud, some fireworks, a firecracker now and then. This is just the top of the iceberg. They can become very rioty. In the yugoslavian civil war they recruited from ultras, and after the war, they where ehm.. pretty radicalized against teams of the opposing side. We sometimes needed hundreds of police with horses and big cars with water cannons to guide opposing teams away from each other after a match. Now teams are fined or even disqualified if their supporters misbehave, and the misbehaving supporters get thrown in jail for a few days and they have to pay fines, and are excluded from the stadium for life. That cooled a lot of supporters teams down. At least in our country.
