Who are the young riders to watch in the hard enduro scene? Who's the up-and-coming talent in EnduroCross? FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Antti Kallonen and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Timmy Weigand seem to think it might be Ryder LeBlond. They invited the 18-year-old from Pennsylvania to come to Southern California for the 2020 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championship, which took place entirely at Glen Helen Raceway inside the span of two weeks (due to Covid complications), and allowed the New Englander to get his feet wet in the most intense off-road series in the country.
While admitting he made "a lot of rookie mistakes" in his rookie season, Ryder LeBlond turned heads with his performances. With less than two weeks of EX practice under his belt, LeBlond not only qualified for every round, but captured four top-10 finishes and nearly nabbed the 2020 Junior EnduroCross Championship title in the process.
The hard enduro prodigy confirmed his place alongside off-road racing's elite, and among the top ranks of EnduroCross, all but ensuring his return in 2021--likely on a factory ride, and definitely with more training and preparation.
Hear what Ryder LeBlond had to say about his time with the FMF KTM and Rockstar Husky factory teams, his thoughts on his rookie GEICO AMA EnduroCross season, what he learned and what he plans to work on for the future.
