I like your statement: "wait until you've experienced a situation in which a GPS could actually have made your life noticeably easier". I first bought a dedicated GPS for my motorcycle back in 2008 because smartphones weren't really a thing that most people had and i was living in a foreign country that I didn't know. As I've gotten older I have continued to upgrade and mount an on-board GPS because it means my phone can stay safely in my pocket; dry, charged, and ready for other situations. If you're taking your bike on a long-distance tour it's a great thing to have onboard, but if you're taking the same route every day, then you don't need to bother. It's certainly not the first thing you should get.

A Garmin zumo XT is imho way better for a 3200km holiday drive compared to a phone. It can withstand the vibrations, dirt and rain. Doesn't need to be charged, can be viewed in bright sunlight and most of all CAN BE OPERATED WITH GLOVES. If you don't do really long tours, a phone on your handlebar works fine but i prefer my XT on which i easily can share routes with my girlfriend and mates. We all have the same track or route, we don't need cellular networks, we don't have dead phone batteries. If your bike supports Apple Carplay or Android Auto then it becomes a different story, but mine doesn't...

@davidnayce78854 ай бұрын
It's one of those cases where your phone is a jack of all trades, master of none. Sure, it can do GPS nav, but it won't be as good as a unit dedicated to that function. I used 2-4 wipes for that (helmet, lights, licence plate, seat, commands, body, frame, fork, radiator, rims, underneath parts) It don't go as far as a good pressure wash (I still do it 2 times a year), but at least the cleaning fluids are not going on the brakes or the chain. First, in general, many FARKLEs should be bought in the peddle bicycle section of a discount store or online supermarket. Most bicycles at 20-30 MPH take more shocks from small bumps, curb-ramps, and potholes with little or no suspension than a motorcycle at 30-50 on the same bad roads. If it can take the abuse of a bicycle, it will last on a motorcycle even better. Also, it's all priced for people who spend $100 to $900 on their total vehicle; so you can't charge double or triple for something you can make good money on for $20. Someone else will sell it for $20 and this market is not paying $60 to get your logo and advertise for you. 12:46 You ask what we think and which stuff we buy? I ride to work year-round and I know the moisture wicking underlayers in PA summers and Winter freeze-out layers in winter are worth EVERY penny! - Well considering I wait for Cycle Gear to have end of season sales for $10-$15 for one or two shirts and sometimes get a free matching set of gloves or balaclava for helping clean out their inventory; I also agree there's no reason to by one pair of shorts for $45. I also don't mind getting them at a superstore or discount market when available. While I'm wasting keystrokes few might ever read, Uline is usually a good seller, but that $9 bucket's a little steep, I got my 5 gallon bucket FREE at Harbor Freight for spending $15 for some non-related $25 item that was on sale, so it cost me about $9 less than at Uline. Cup-holder, OUCH, I like drinking my morning cup of joe on the way to work! My holder cost less than a third of the price you're price you're complaining about, you're right that's just silly. However, when you say "... no reason for ANY cupholder?" I must differ and won't beg for the right to do so.

The main reason for those Chinese screens is that they act as drive recorders - if you look at the kits they always come with two 1080p HD cameras to be mounted at the front and back of the bike, which is good protection if you even get into an accident and need to make an insurance claim and have video evidence. Them doing the GPS and Car Play thing is just a result of using Android as the platform to perform such duties so they might as well throw it in. The basic idea is far more useful than a dedicated SatNav device in comparison and I would consider getting one if they weren’t all made by Chinese companies that would probably disappear within two years. Wish an actual company would make them.

I'm addicted to coffee I got cup holders on three out of six of my motorcycles. I got one cup holder that I can transfer from one bike to another by attaching it to the tank. I've definitely put a tall windscreen on my KLR. my Harley's a bobber so hell it don't even have a speedometer. my sport bike is completely stuck I have nothing extra on it. and that brings me to my big Cruiser which has many things on it. I enjoyed the video

I agree that motorcycle-specific t-shirts are bullshit. But you HAVE to try VNM Sport compression tops. IS the best $100 I have spent at the track. It will keep you feeling fresh on 105F track days even if you use a leather suit without ventilation.

The whole under layer thing is wild to me because I didn’t know it existed until now lol The whole Harley thing is awful- way too expensive. I do have a couple accessories.. key chain, stickers for my bike, tail tidy, slip on! Like yeah I’ve totally looked at full exhausts butttt my bike has plenty of power as is and a extra few horse power isn’t worth the price of a well used Honda grom lol

Hey Yammie, is there a slip-on or something for the mt09?
@doghous34 ай бұрын
hah-hah, no. like the mt07, you have to cry in full exhaust.

I needed a full system exhaust when I found 1) The previous owner welded the muffler clamp to the header 2) nobody sells slip on exhausts to fit the stock header on 1990 ultra classics

As a HD rider I have that bigazz cup holder since it came out at $35. I am a coffee drinker it paid for itself just on my midmorning stop on trips with hotel coffee alone. Recently retired but have a mount for it on my daily rider 1987 xl600r I've had since new. I also ride a lot after dark and stock HD headlights suck. Too cheap for a LP6 but for $200 it is the first thing to change. No other brand comes close to HD when it comes to farkles. Rallies are one big sales pitch, tents selling any and everything, it's a cosplay comedy show.

almost any soap does the job but dont use dish soap... it removes the protective film on your bike(also for cars) unles you are planing to polish it again. Also dont use silicone on gas tank... it gets slipery af

Motorcycling is a hobby and 99% of the time you don't NEED something on your bike but WANT it because it looks or sounds cool. Let's be serious, if us riders were sensible none of us would be riding a bike in the first place.

the car wash is only bad because you shouldn't ride the bike and then hose the engine down with cold water as soon as you get off it

I would argue that "motorcycle specific" cleaners make no sense whatsoever But having proper car cleaning products that are compatible with motorcycle components is a good investment IMO Soap and water + bucket is the way to scratch up any surfaces on ur bike
@frozen_spider4 ай бұрын
How would I scratch any surface with a microfibre cloth?
@someguy95204 ай бұрын
@frozen_spider using a microfiber is the 1st step. By proper cleaning products i mean for example cleaners, shampoos etc. They loft off dirt and keep it in emulsion to reduce the chances of scratching. Dishsoap is great at dissolving grease and fat and keeps that in emulsion, but not actual particles Car/motorcycle cleaners also usually have lubricants to furthermore reduce scratching, by creating a thin slippery film without reducing cleaning power It's all in the details. I would wager, that a 100$/€ cleaning set may be much for a start, but you can use it for a long time and on all your vehicles. It will pay for itself after like 2-3 washes

The GPS issue is not that simple as phones will overheat on you fast! Not while on the country roads but when waiting at a stop light somewhere! If you do long dinstance touring then you need the best tool for the job depending on the situation.

So you don't want to add a mount and a screen to your bike in the form of a satnav, but you do in the form of a super-duper antivibration mount and a phone??? Even in the UK there are a lot of places I ride where a phone signal is not gaurenteed so a satnav will win out. I can also download the route to a memory card to share around with others, something that, if possible, would be a faff with a phone. The most useless thing I see in the UK is a 'tail tidy'. People use them because 'it makes the back of my bike look nicer'. I see the back of my bike when I go into the garage to get it. The three times I have seen it when I was riding it I have had more important things to worry about, either broken bones or my 'mate' running me over [on track].
