Before Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Bowl, there was Rygar. Tecmo really doesn't get enough credit for their contributions to the NES library!
@danalong1237
@danalong1237 11 ай бұрын
This was Tecmo at its best, with notable titles such as Rygar, Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Super Bowl, Solomon’s Key, Bomb Jack (when the company was known as Tehkan), Dead or Alive, and Monster Rancher (which introduced the lovable character Mocchi), before it merged with Koei (best known for the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, PTO: Pacific Theater of Operations and Dynasty Warriors franchises) to form Koei Tecmo Holdings!

Nintendo complete. Yes, I’ve always been suspicious of main stream video game lack of tecmo coverage. I’m Severely based, I believe attack on titan 2 on switch is the best reason to buy the platform. But Industry biased doesn’t like this video game company because they did not want to support the Sega Dreamcast and Dead or Alive was trash. Sony was never gonna support tecmo, they still don’t, and KZbinrs don’t. Because video game reviews is the original fake news

Rygar is one of those games every kid who ever played it when jt was new loved despite never getting anywhere in it. It was a real treat to revisit later on in life to finally conquer. So many of these old NES games were like childhood white whales.

@@SamM-gl9zc 🤣 Technically, I remember watching my uncle play games. However, I didn't need any help getting through any of the games myself. Do you remember Metal Gear? I actually managed to beat that myself. When I tried to play it again at an older age, I couldn't manage to get out of the jungle. 😆 Those stupid mazes where you can move in any direction, but the screen and details remain the same. Then again, I don't have the appetite to play these games like I used to. Nowadays, it's WoW or something modern.

I was 9 when this game was released and I remember seeing it at Toys r Us when looking for another game and the game I wanted was sold out so I held off buying a game and asked my mom to take me to the video store and they happen to have this game for rent and I decided to get it. After two days of playing, it was my new favorite game that after I dropped off the game back at video store I went back to Toys r Us and bought it. I learned back then to rent games first before buying. There were tons of games that had cool box art that made the game seem cool but turned out to be crap and then get stuck with it. Rygar is still one of my favorite games.

Feeling like a newborn reading those comments. Wow... I'm 20 but most of these old games have simple pixel arts that are just so pleasing to the eyes and sometimes also a great music to enhance even more the experience. I like some of those more than many 3D games released nowadays and of course many pixel art games made part of my childhood too, thus I actually love them no matter if I played or not, if they were part of my chilhood or not... It's wonderful to see people still making pixel art based games or perfecting old ones with remakes

Last time I played this was when I was a kid. I remember the open world map (not unlike Zelda), with little suggestion or guidance as to which path to take. It was pretty easy to get lost. I also remember the life-meter power up with the more enemies you killed. Side note: I distinctly remember finding a screen with non-stop enemy generation and putting my controller on auto-fire for 10 - 15 minutes straight 😂😛😉 What I DO NOT remember is the power-up you are using to damage all enemies on the screen (using it on bosses). That is so OP. The bosses were always one of the hardest parts about this game, but you beat them pretty-much effortlessly. Wish I had known about that!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this game does not have a password nor does it have a sram feature. How did TECMO expect us to be able to beat such a complicated and intricate game in a single walltrough? Only the most hardcore gamers of that time could face such a challenge. My greatest respect and admiration for those who achieved it. Bravo 😯

Welcome to the NES. This title along with Mega Man, Blaster Master, Ninja Gaiden and several others easily had >1 hour of game play (often way longer, especially if you struggled) with no password or save feature. I remember more than a few times pausing a game and leaving it on for hours, just so I wouldn't have to start all over.

The last stage can be broken so you can pass through walls. It's nintendo hard. You have to stand on the very last pixel of land on any screen that faces the outer edge where there is only sky and jump off. You must jump so far towards the edge of the screen that the game is forced to scroll to the next screen. If done corrextly you will double jump and wrap around to the opposite side of the castle. From there the game glitches up so there's no wall detection.

"the goals are clearly signposted. It doesn’t leave you wandering for hours trying to figure out what to do next" I'd actually COMPLETLY disagree with that based on personal experience. I had this game when I was a really young kid and hated it because I had no idea what to do, where to go, what the game was even intending me to do. I just died several times, with a "Game Over" and assumed that's all it was after trying to play it for a few weeks, even coming back to it. The Legend Of Zelda, even, I could manage with, but this, I didn't care for. Eventually, I stopped playing it as a kid and regarded this as a "really bad game" for over 30 years. Then one day I saw a video online about it and that there was far more to the game than I ever knew. There was actual progression, a way to get stronger, and even overhead sections. Things I had NO idea were part of the game as a kid and never found even after coming back to it for weeks. Only as an adult was I ever able to come back to this game and appreciate it at all. So I'd say, from personal experience this was one of the most unclear and obtuse games since Milon's Secret Castle. I ended up having fun with it, but that was because it took me over 30 years to learn the game had more than I had any way to find out on my own.

In my series of books, "Diamond Dragons", the primary hero eventually creates his own weapon. It's extremely similar to the discus-type slasher which Rygar used. 💪😎✌️ This is, of course, by design; I intended it to be a subtle nod to the game(s), main character, feel, etc.
