Impossible to give just one song from Nightmare album. All Songs are a piece of art. "Welcome to the Family" and "God Hates us" are the more badass songs and "Save Me" (their masterpiece of this album) and "Victim" the more instrospective and progressive ones.

I was just watching y'all headbang in unison and when Eric was talking about the smooth transitions, and I just said out loud "oh just wait til the second half kicks in". My kid looked at me like I was loopy ;) he's been listening to A7X with me since he was around 4 (I don't censor music). Yes, the unedited versions of songs are definitely the best. Nightmare theme...but also how a person feels when they've lost a loved one. If I was Matt I'd have been saying God Hates Us .... but I have said that too so, I get the sentiment.

I know this is about the nightmare album mostly, but please, please give Cosmic from "Life is but a Dream" a listen. Buried Alive was my favorite A7X song for ages until I heard Cosmic. It is some of the best guitar playing you'll ever hear, and that song absolutely WILL take you on a journey through the whole thing. It's best listened with your eyes closed, laying back in your seat and soaking it all in.

the entire band is heavily inspired by Metallica which is probably why you get that feeling. the Hail to the King album as a whole is pretty much a tribute to Metallica with songs such as HTTK being similar to Enter Sandman, This Means War being similar to Sad but True, Shepherd of Fire being similar to For Whom the Bell Tolls, and so on.

This song Shadows sings at the end on the Metellica rif as well. This album they have a few bands influence, but just for like a minute. Shadows only sings like James H but he sings also some other voices on other records, but more as a tribute to them rather then copying their voices, because he has his own special voice. But i felt the same on the end like he sang like James and the riff was Metallica as well that part. I love that album Nightmare. But many more. Only sounding the 7 trumpets is not my favo. The rest is all just great to me, also life is but a dream last one is a banger.

I'm back again... So you mentioned how he sounds like James Hetflied from Metallica, A7X takes heavy influence from Metallica and they have said that "Buried Alive" was their "One." I have seen these guys perform multiple times and I actually got to see The Nightmare Tour. Seeing this song live is amazing. I love The Nightmare album! Lots of great songs there. On the note of pot holes- PA is really bad for them too. We have memes that show drunk drivers are the ones driving straight through the potholes and sober people are the swerving drivers.

Still watching, but if you like the softer stuff of theirs, you should take a listen to So Far Away, which Syn wrote (his first song he wrote actually) when The Rev passed away, but also Dear God too. They're both amazing songs that are softer. ETA - ok So you guys have already reacted to So Far Away. I'll have to go watch that next.

Syn actually wrote So Far Away for his grandfather, Rev was still alive at the time. When Rev passed it was soon after released as a single and has been dedicated to him ever since.

Given how much time it takes to produce an album it makes sense that the song at least started out as something else, then maybe some minor tweaks were made after that fateful day in December ‘09. Doesn’t matter tho, this will forever be Rev’s song.

The Nightmare album made me a fan of theirs. I was kind of sad that it happened that way for me, but I found an amazing band because of the loss of that amazing mind.

I saw them in Minneapolis on the Nightmare tour in December 2011. The whole show was dedicated to The Rev. It hit hard because my brother had just died in September. Such a good concert. Black veil brides, asking Alexandria and Hollywood undead opened for them. Perfect concert.

The Rev was around to finish writing the whole album. Everything except for So Far Away obviously he was still putting everything he had into and the last song they finished was Fiction which is a true tragedy if and when you listen to it. Matt and Jimmy finished writing the song and shortly after is when the Rev passed so he just never ended up recording any of his parts with that task being taken over by Mike Portnoy as he left Dream Theater. God hates us is definitely an amazing song so I definitely check it out And as I mentioned Fiction is an incredible song by them as well but it hits best when you know its 2 things 1. Its a more mellow song focused on drums and piano and 2. That this was the last song the Rev poured everything he had into even with them using a demo voice recording of his that is admittedly a little bad but it was the last thing he ever did for them so they kept it

About Fiction, the Rev didn’t write the song with Matt. Matt’s voice etc come in later when they release the song cause the Rev handed in the demo and died three days later. When the Rev handed in the song to Matt he told him this was to be the last song of the album. That’s why in “So Far Away” Matt sings “a final song, a last request”. The Rev had named it “Death” originally then the band changed the name to Fiction. The song we hear in the album is a mix of the demo version and the studio version to honour the revs last vocals and his last playing.

This song holds a special place in my heart. This song got my dad through stage 4 throat cancer. I remember him playing this song almost every day when he was going through his chemo treatments. I am so thankful that he’s still with us. Part of me believes this song helped save him 🤘🏻❤️ thank you guys for doing this song. My favorite reactors doing one of my favorite songs. “Save me” is a masterpiece of a song and probably the best in the Nightmare album. It’s the raw emotions of the band right after the Rev’s passing. The melody and the lyrics are mind blowing. Also “Fiction” is the last song the Rev created and sang and handed it in to be the last song of the nightmare album 3 days before he passed. And it is the last song of that album. It’s basically him singing goodbye to his friends. Extremely emotional and eerie. FoREVer 🤘
