Ryko machine on-board dryer not oscillating

It's a wonder how much better the on board dryers do their job when the oscillator flaps work. Well through some typical checks I would normally do to fix a problem, turns out something else entirely was the problem, and could have been fixed for free with some closer snoopin'. But I got 'er.

Do you know what the empty hole between the two nozzles seen at 0:05 was for? On the newer MAXX systems, that was where they had the "Mirror Rinse" nozzle that can be aimed at the mirrors.

Something I never thought about. Perhaps that was an add-on option for these machines. I bet it wouldn't be hard to plumb one in either.

Do you by chance know what causes some of these older systems when it drives back and forth to make a weird sort of buzzing noise when the gantry moves back and forth at full speed. My guess is it's just the drive wheel gearbox that causes that when it's severely shot? I'm not sure if you know what it is I am talking about. It isn't as common, but I just remember an XS 1 back in 2011 I used to watch when I was a kid and they'd almost always have lines of cars going through, but the gantry always made this weird sound when moving back and forth, almost sounding electronically sound wise. Odd question, but it's just something I remembered, the system is long gone now. It never was maintained properly as it is and damaged vehicles with too much air pressure on the back arms.

Well so far, I haven't heard any gearbox or unusual motor noise at any of the wheels on this machine. Been maintaining it since new in 2007. Depending on the noise and speed or pitch of it, could be several things, e.g. the internal bearings in the motor itself (sealed units far as I know but could still get moisture in over time), or tooth damage to the gears in gearbox, or wheel bearings. Wheel bearings are the one main maintenance item of the three, abd perhaps they weren't getting lubed enough. Of all the bearings to lube on the machine, those ones for the wheels are by far most important to keep on top of. Buzzing noise.. 🤷‍♂️ heck maybe a motor was about to burn up. They see a lot of action and do the most heavy lifting on the whole machine.

@@CarwashReviewsFlorida gosh all I hear before the brush cycle is the pulsations from the high pressure dirt blasters up at window level, and the rotation of the rocker blaster that is at the bottom section of the vehicle out of view. I just know it makes less noises that shouldn't be there than the one I maintain. Ha

How do you adjust the speed of the oscillation? Most of the ones that I see slowly move up/down while yours rapidly change directions

I can't adjust oscillate speed on this one. The direction change delay is permanently set, and the speed at which they flap is just dependent on the health of both their air cylinders and the valve that operates them.

@@sixgundave I would think that since I see on other units that they flap more slowly, that there is a flow control valve that is either missing or not adjusted on yours. Flow control valves run in line with the pneumatics line which regulates the speed that the cylinder extends/retracts. Unfortunately NCS made their parts diagram private(must have an account) to view now, so I am unable to confirm if there is one in their diagrams.

@@sixgundave UPDATE: I managed to view an archived version of the diagrams, and it shows that there is a needle valve(flow control valve) connected to the elbow on each end of the piston for the oscillators, could you check to see if it is there on yours?

All right, so perhaps the needle valve oscillations could be an option on these machine model. Years back, I had replaced one side's air cylinder and I remember no such valve. The way this one is set up, these oscillating cylinders receive the full pressure out of the main air manifold, which is set at the recommended 110psi. They have always been that fast since the machine was brand new. Perhaps other machines may either have these needle valve pressure reducers installed, or their machine's main air pressure isn't at the recommended 110psi. There are other air switches on the air manifold that use individual air regulators, e.g. cylinders for brush arms, but the dryer oscillators do not. Personally, there is no need to adjust the speed at which they change direction - just as long as they do move.

Of all the air cylinders on the machine, only one uses a needle-valve pressure regulator and that is the one for the rollover brush that goes over the top of the vehicle, and that's to add a braking effect when it returns to its default "up" position. Probably helps pull a bit of vacuum so the brush doesn't slam down so hard against the vehicle too.
