My daughter met her husband online and now lives in Adelaide. She grew up in the US. Love how everyone there has fences. When my son-in-law came here to visit he couldn't believe how many houses in the US have no fences. Love the accent. Thanks for the great video.

First time I used it I thought it was trash, my mum bought one for herself, as previously the First 45min of edging was dedicated to starting up the petrol whipper snipper, there was also a 30min struggle with the petrol mower too but she got a battery one that was to my surprise very good.I hadn't used one of these before and it really kicked wasn't sure I was going about it the right way n didn't have the confidence on the throttle to just squeeze it and as it was new didn't want to fk it. she had buyers remorse at the start and was going to bite the bullet and just get a whipper snipper (battery this time) and put this "contraption" in the far courner of the garage. Thanks to the video i had a plan of attack, I did the first 5 or 6 times and now it's easy n she's wrapped with it. Only downside like u said was the weight but after the initial edge has been cut its easier to let the wheels take the weight without having a panic attack. But yes the smaller battery is fine once the line has been drawn. Thanks again!!

Nice review for a great tool. I don't get a clean edge with my weed wacker and considering this. How will it work if I have a 25mm wooden edge between my lawn and a plant area ? Will the small wheel at the front rest on the 25mm wooden edge ? Seems the bigger rear wheel will run on the grass. Thanks mate.
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 2 жыл бұрын
The rare wheel is ~35 mm. The width of the wooden edge might be enough for you to use as an edge to drive the machine across. I guess you would have to try and see. Alternatively you could flip the machine around and “free hand” the edge without using the wheel on a hard surface to guide you.

What are your thoughts on purchasing just a line trimmer to do the edges? Is there much of a benefit of getting a separate edger?
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 2 жыл бұрын
You can get away with using a line trimmer. But you run the risk of taking chunks out of your lawn and having a uneven edge. This happened to me multiple times….hence I brought the edger.

It will take a few goes to carve out a nice groove, between the concrete and the grass. Once you have that, it is easy to keep the edge maintained.

It takes time, but if you want a clean edge and its your first time edging that area, use a edger hand tool and dig it out a bit before you give it a go with an electric or gas powered edger. Edit: And of course give a blower a go and really tidy up those edges afterwards

Hello, is there some type of guide to stop it from accidentally cutting into the concrete and breaking the blade? I want to buy it but scared I might do this by accident
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 6 ай бұрын
No guide. Use with common sense. If the blade is parallel to the concrete then there is no issue (this is the correct way to use it). If you go perpendicular (incorrect way) then yes is it can create a cut in the concrete. We get this comment sooooo often! Read some of the other comments with my answers attached. I have had mine for 7 years….replaced the blade once (we have a video on that) and I still have a concrete driveway and path intact.

What do you do when you want to make a line between the grass and stone pavers that sit above the ground? There isn't concrete to place the wheel on, the only option is the grass.
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I just hover it above the grass much like you would with a line trimmer.

Do you think it would work edging against wooden sleepers ?
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage Жыл бұрын
Yip in some spots I run the wheel along a wooden edge. As long as they are not sitting too high off the ground and the blade is able to reach the edge you are trying to create.

Great review, thank you. I think I'm done trying to keep up maintenance on my 25+ year old gas edger. I have several 18v Ryobi tools and batteries, so this would be a good fit. However, I have an 80v Kobalt blower, and plan for their trimmer. so I may go with the Kobalt 80v edger. Either way, this video gives me confidence that cordless is the way to go.

Just unpacked mine (Christmas pressie from the missus) this morning and did my lawns. The concrete edge only allows 3 sides of the lawn to be cut with the wheel on the concrete. On the close side, I had to run the machine backwards with the wheel suspended above the lawn. Got 1.5 sides done before the battery went flat and I had to do a full charge. I found out they are not shipped fully charged and it took about 2 hours Anyway. love your video and review. Those blades do seem to wear out quickly. I've nearly lost the top edge today. Do you allow the lawn to get thicker or dethatch / scarify it down closer to the concrete. That was always my fear, just cutting a straight edge with the lawn getting thick

I edge every time I mow. I guess you could just edge when you think it needs it.

Is there a guide on the edger that keeps it straight along the edge of the sidewalk? Or do you just keep the wheel on a straight line by watching it.
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage Жыл бұрын
You keep the wheel on the edge, and the blade will then slip into the gap between the concrete and the grass. It’s easy to manage and get a straight cut!

Assuming I'm doing a weekly maintenance cut on a well-maintained yard, approximately how long can i expect the 9amp hour battery to last?
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 2 жыл бұрын
It’s really tough to say, but I’d imagine that you’d have absolutely no trouble cutting for half an hour on battery of half that size, as long as the channel has already been cut.

Does anyone know how long the battery last , , I've seen a few reviews saying the battery only last like 5 minutes ,, so if that's the case , this isn't worth me buying... Thanks, (btw) I really enjoyed your video, very informative.
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 2 жыл бұрын
The battery life is dependent on which battery you use with the tool, and the first couple of uses as you cut a nice “channel” into the lawn will impact battery life, but 5 minutes? Unlikely. Unless you’re using the smallest battery trying to cut through hard dirt. We have never had an issue with battery life.
