Ryobi 36V / 40V Battery FAIL, How to Easy Reset it !! - 1386

If your Ryobi 36voly or in the US 40voly battery starts to not want to charge and just blinks on all four LED's on the battery, when you try to check the power level,, this video will help you fix that.

Worked great! Only thing I had to do differently was to press the LED indicator button while shorting the reset contacts. FYI in case it doesn’t work for someone else. Ps, I used a standard T10, not a security T10. Felt like I could have stripped the head but I was careful and it worked. I do believe this is an overload protect feature built into the PCB. Ryobi could have made the reset easier for everyone but I’m guessing they want to sell more batteries and also give repair shops an easy fix in which they can make a healthy profit.

Easy fix if reset button by itself faild. Hook a brake light to the charger output through clip leads to the cells directly bypassing the BMS Then charge to 3.4V per cell. If a cell group is bad you will need to disconnect test and replace the bad cells if found. Next apply the same voltage to the output teminals. Then hit the reset switch to allow communication with the charger. Finally recharge as normal. ❤

A small screen will brake stud in screw where a standard torque will work I think

Thank you for your video! Clear and concise and extremely helpful. However, my battery is completely drained, as such shorting the reset easy fix isn't working for me. Do you have any recommendations?

I would do this,,, use a multimeter and find + and - on the string of cells,, lets say is sayes 14volt,,, I would than put a little charger on that and slowly bring up the voltages. (I have a laboratory power supply that can go from 0-60v) I am not sure if the ryobi charger can be any help here. It would not be wise to throw the charging voltages from the charger on to the depleted cells,, might be possible to serial it with a light bulb,, to bring up the voltages slowly.

Are you still in Portugal? In the Mikrotik interface you can check the system health (don't know the exact place right now) which should show the input voltage from the battery. That will not be the true battery voltage because of drop in the cables, but it is something.

Mine does the same thing as yours. But when I put it in the charger it flashes like it's charging for a few seconds and then it changes to red green again.... Any new solutions? It a new battery so i get a new one for free anyway, but i want this to work

Ryobi might tell the consumers that they put the security torx screws for safety reasons. Most people would just buy a new battery and shove money to the manufacturer. If they cared about e-waste they would have just put a reset switch to the battery to mitigate any hazards. As most manufacturers these days it's an obvious money grab and they don't care about the environment.Good job finding the reset!

this apparently doesn't work if you have zero lights. I have three batteries that don't light up at all. I thought about a trickle charger with alligator clips to get them to blink, then reset? Thanks nonetheless 🧎‍♂️

I think you need to measure the cells,, and probably the whole battery is way to low.
