Just a quick first impression of the new Ryobi 40v HP 18 inch Chainsaw RY40508.
Thanks to Ryobi and The Home Depot for providing this sample. The Home Depot part number for this item is 314600175.
This is easily my favorite battery powered chainsaw. I have all the other models of the Ryobi 40 volt line up and the Milwaukee M18 Chainsaw, and this is the best of the bunch. Changes are subtle from the saw they came out with this spring. I really like the black trim over the previous white trim. Operation of the saw is exactly the same, but the speed and torque are much improved. It does seem to go through a battery a little quicker, which I accept as a fair trade for more power. I really like that this model comes with a case, reducing the worry about my saw dripping oil where ever I store it.

Thanks for anecdotally comparing to previous 16 inch Ryobi versions. It helps put this new saw into perspective.

It sure is. Kinda bummed about spending the money on the other saw this spring, but oh well. I should probably just consider myself lucky to be able to test this one.

That saw is pretty impressive. Good luck on the hunker of a tree, when you get ready to take it down. Looks like you were having fun comparing the speed of the saws.

Good insightful review. I like how you compared the previous models of the Ryobi battery chainsaws! From watching the various reviews on this new Ryobi 18 inch battery chainsaw. The EGO 18 incher is said to still have the overall edge in performance and features.

I really like it. I have no idea what it costs, as it isn't on the internet yet. The model I am comparing it to cost about $250 and came with a battery. If this is in the $350 range, it is a good deal since you get a bigger battery and a case.

This saw seem to hit all the marks. You could really tell the speed difference when you compared them. It will be cool to see how it does against the hunker tree boss. Nice Review.

I first saw this saw during the Ryobi announcement earlier this month. I need a bigger chainsaw and was happy to see this new addition to the 40v line! I have been checking my local home depot and haven't had any luck finding one yet, I think its still not out in the wild yet. Where did you get yours? BTW, I think I saw a price at $329 for this saw, but don't quote me on that.
@FernbarkFrist
@FernbarkFrist 3 жыл бұрын
I got an early model to try before they made the initial launch. $329 isn't bad, especially if you get a kit with a battery. Still cheaper than the Milwaukee without a battery.

@@FernbarkFrist thats great! I'm glad you got a chance to test it. I got about 7 oaks I gotta cut up soon. So this saw is gonna get a work out! :) BTW, I got some 6amp 40v batteries, it will be interesting to see how much sawing time they will provide.

Especially because this comes with a rapid charger which alone is $100. I want the saw kit just because it comes with that. According to ryobi’s website all of the new HP tools come with the rapid charger

Oh look, an oiler! Good call Ryobi. Is there a trigger safety, or what not, for those of us with sneaky kids who like to not listen to “don’t touch”? Looks like the beer stump pruning is going well.

I don't have many trees or stumps that challenge an 18" saw. That stump only has about two more saw reviews left in it.
