Ryobi Drill Press Unboxing

I recently hit 5000 subscribers so I thought I would treat myself to a new tool :p.
This is the Ryobi drill press from Bunnings. It seemed to be the best budget drill press around, and everyone uses Ryobi so I thought it I'd give it a go. I decided my little drill mount stand thing was getting too annoying to use.
Assembly was pretty straight forward. The little plastic guard covering the chuck seemed useless and would get in the way of changing bits every time so I took it off. Laser seems pretty accurate, though not sure how often I would use it.
There is an odd clicking noise from the motor each time it stops. I'm not sure if thats normal or not as this is my first drill press but to me it seemed strange.
Will probably be building a stand for it next or a workbench to put it on. But first I need to do some tidying up...

You did in five minutes what most un-boxers take 30-60 minutes to do, and did it all without any obnoxious background music or rambling around looking for something to say, like, "What's up, KZbinrs?", or "What's happenin'?" Great, refreshing video!

Glad to see i'm not the only one who got sick of the eye shield straight away. I can't get to the chuck properly.

Nice unboxing. I really like the green theme that Ryobi uses in its current line up. I have the blue 12" desktop drill press with the digital readout for rpm's. I didn't notice how you change the speed on yours but the next video is a review on your drill press. How convenient. Great job love your drill press.

Hey mate. I'm about to buy a drill press so I'm back for your "10 month later" review. Would you recommend this drill press? I'm thinking of spending the extra for the Full Boar, but have you had any moments where the Ryobi has let you down?

+Last Minute Thoughts g'day just picked up the drill press and assembled it, like you I took the plastic guard off. I noticed on the feed table it has alot of movement, am or could I have done something wrong???? apart from that I now have to awesome products the band saw and drill press. I am looking at a table saw between the Makita and Ryobi any suggestions cheers from Australia

Nice! My table does move left and right as well when its tightened down. I have used the Ryobi table saw and I must say it does the job pretty well. But if you're willing to spend the extra money on the Makita then definitely go for the Makita. It will be so much nicer to work with and last a lot longer.

Seeing as you went full boar with the Band Saw, any reason why you didnt save some more for the larger, much more powerful drill press? (just wondering, as I've been eyeing off both myself -- you're videos so far have been really useful!)
@TheOffcut
@TheOffcut 8 жыл бұрын
+flatkangaroo Oh, I didn't actually take much notice of the full boar drill press! I had only seen the full size floor mounted one at my bunnings. Having a quick look at it online now, it does look pretty good! But for $100NZ more I don't think I would get that much more out of it. The digital display seems unnecessary but other than that it looks nice. I won't be doing much heavy work on it and its a tool I don't use all the time, so I would still rather save the money for something else. This should do me just fine :). Thanks for the comment!

How do you loosen the belt tensioner? It doesn't have a shank or anything to put a tool on
@TheOffcut
@TheOffcut 8 жыл бұрын
The belt tension comes from the motor. You can unscrew the motor and one of the mounts pivots which you use to tighten or loosen the belt
@DakGuy05
@DakGuy05 8 жыл бұрын
+Last Minute Thoughts I eventually figured it out. I couldn't compress the spring enough so I just took the motor off and pulled out that pin and took off the spring, then put the pin back in. Now I can properly change the belt speed.

Nice assembly! Doesn't look like the setup/user manual ever left its plastic bag (haha). I haven't used a Ryobi drill press but did hear yours click and rumble. Clicking could be the motor stator disengaging to next start mode. The rumbling might be either the Chuck not aligned properly or the belts (under the top hood cover) need adjusting. Humorous ending, old.... new....old .....new.... perhaps I didn't need the new? Once you get the kinks worked out, I think you might appreciate the stronger torque.
@TheOffcut
@TheOffcut 8 жыл бұрын
+MRrwmac haha thanks! I thought I'd give it a go without the manual, worked out ok apart from having to repeat a few steps here and there. OK thanks, It doesn't seem like its an issue, I just didn't expect it to do that. I will have a fiddle with the belts next time. I opened it up, didn't really know what I was doing, belt felt tight and seemed OK so I left it how it was haha. Do I need it? Yes. Do I need it right now? Probably not haha. I have no space to put it as it doesn't fit where the old one is because it is too tall and hits my overhead cabinet. But its just exciting getting new tools! haha
@MRrwmac
@MRrwmac 8 жыл бұрын
+Last Minute Thoughts If you would like to put it where the old one was, perhaps you could move the battery charger above and cut that cubby out or cut your table corner down a bit to fit? Also, forgot to congratulate you on 5K subscribers on just 17 videos is awesome!
@TheOffcut

+MRrwmac Thank you very much! There's more than 17 videos though haha. hmmm that sounds like quite a bit of work. But I will keep that in mind!

I just got mine delivered. Loved it but did you check the drivebelt tension?? Mine was to lose. It might cause the belt to slip. What do you think about it so far?
@TheOffcut
@TheOffcut 7 жыл бұрын
The bolt that is locking the motor in place for the tension is so tight i cant even undo it haha. Does yours make the weird clicky noise when you turn it off too? other than those 2 things it does the job and I haven't had any major issues with it
