I found this old Ryobi Grass Scorpion (Model RCT-2800) in a recent shed clean-out job and challenged myself to get it running - no matter what! Well, it has a few issues - so let's start by sorting out the spark system..

Thanks Chris, that's really interesting,I've got a couple of old petrol line trimmers that need repairing again, I've replaced the coil spring and pull cord before but never had to do much with the actual engine other than replace the bulb, lines and plug ! They are such useful machines but can cause a lot of stress, it's common to hear the tell tale sound of spluttering engines and loud swearing on a spring day at the local allotment site ! I've now gone over to battery powered units where the only real stresses are running out of juice, line feed issues and rethreading the twin line spools !

I use a Makita battery job here Andy - so much more convenient than mixing up fresh fuel all the time! Back when I was a mechanic, electric units weren't an option!

I just couldn't help but wonder in which phase of this BigstackD would have put a big hammer on the job. It always amazes me how patient you are, Chris. You go on where others wouldn't even have started.

I got couple of those Ryobi trimmers. Years ago I purchase a carby kit for $27 for local repair shop still didn't work and I ended up getting them to rebuild carby it for 50 something dollars. They wouldn't use the carby kit I bought from them. Then I found on eBay because I got a brand new carby for like $10. The most primer bulbs you can get like a bag of them for a few dollars.
