This is a video about how to re-spool or re-line a Ryobi 18V One grass trimmer.
The line is 0.65mm thick, and for this video, I used a (newer?) type of 'threaded' line, which I think should be more durable.

Hello… I am a 70 year old widow who has never even used a Weedwhacker before. But I am so proud of myself because after watching your video I was able to restring the spool and it works absolutely beautifully. Thanks.😊

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

People like you, who take their time to make how-to videos for those of us that are mechanically impaired, ROCK. I see you have a couple hundred comments, but I'd bet you've informed thousands of others like me. Not only did I learn how to change the string spool, I also found out you could simply refill the empty ones! No, I did not know that. You probably think that's crazy but I'm not the only one. Anyway, your video couldn't have been any more clear (even for me) or explained any better. Thanks so much for your super informative instructions. ROCK ON!

I bought my Ryobi electric weed whacker at LEAST 10 years ago. Ive never had a problem with it. The string feed works like a champ. I was a bit dubious buying electric but admittedly at least for a weed whacker around the home it really is the way to go.

I didn't realize the weed whacker line is automatically cut when it is stopped. I was moving from weed to weed in my driveway and stopping the machine when I moved on to each new weed. Apparently the string was cut at each weed! I couldn't figure out why the string was running out so fast. Your comment at the end about how the string gets cut really helped. Thanks so much!

Spool keeps unwinding? I made a video about the probable solution: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWScqH17bcdnmqM 2:34 I think a critical error is often made during the 1st step of the process: the new cord/line/string first enters the empty spool in the little 'notch' or 'hole' of the empty spool, and then the cord is wrapped in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION from that inserted line, so back on itself. You insert the line into the spool a couple of inches and then wrap the cord BACKWARDS to the direction it's inserted in the spool. For example, if the new line, when inserted into that hole runs in a 'clockwise' direction, wrap the cord going 'counter clockwise', so reverse the direction of the cord. This is what holds the line in place and keeps the spool from unravelling. When inserting the cord, it should only be able to insert into the hole in one direction, so wrap the entire new spool backwards across that first insertion, the opposite way.

I wish I had this problem lol. I seem to break string often as I get close to rocks and tree stumps. I would say a solution is to wind the string really tightly. When I've done this, the auto-feed doesn't work as well and I manually have to extend the string.

Can you do a video on how to replace the head on this model? I've looked and looked but can't find one. I haven't been able to figure it out on my own.
