Ryobi One+ 18v 22 inch HP Hedge Trimmer P2680
Home Depot item number 314600248
Big Thanks to Ryobi and The Home Depot for providing this sample.
This hedge trimmer worked great for 30 minutes. Then it didn't work at all. I was trimming some huckleberries and heard a clink sound. Then she don't work any more. Until then, I was absolutely loving it. Very light weight. Very easy to handle. Quiet. I got about 20 minutes of run time off a 2ah battery in 45 degree weather, which I thought was amazing. I was able to easily cut up to 1/2 inch branches until it stopped. My kit came with the trimmer, a battery and the charger. I never use the hedge sweep, as I find it catches on things and is more of a problem than a help.

Same happened with mine. Twice! I took the first one back. Swapped it out for a new one, and the same thing happened again.

So it seems the new and improved model isn't always so. Ryobi has a few more kinks to work out. Thanks for the review.

Oh well. Ryobi will want it back to look at so they can head warranty claims off at the pass. It looked like it was doing an OK job harvesting your crop. Thank you for the review, Fernbark. Stay safe and stay warm

They may want it back. I am going to guess that is not likely though. Anyway, bummer it broke, but at least I am not out any money.

It was doing great. Would work good on Leah's knock out roses. Bummer it gave up the ghost. But I bet warranty would cover it. I've used Ryobi's warranty on a few pressure washers. Just call the claims office and in about three to four weeks you will get the parts in the mail. Great video buddy 🤝

Thank for the review, I remember last year for HD's Ryobi Days the P2606B Hedge Trimmer was the model included with 2 (4ah) batteries for $99 and was selling out at every location. Wonder if this year it will be the P2680 shown in your video instead, but did your hedge trimmers blades ever work again or just returned?

I run mine on a 6 amp battery. I honestly believe the supplied 2.0ah battery is wrong for this unit. The blade issue is actually a very simple fix, but judging by the number of failures, it really seems like it's not the best design.
@FernbarkFrist
@FernbarkFrist Жыл бұрын
The bigger batteries generally work much better. The blade is easy to fix ( I did a video) but it isn't something you want to do over and over, nor would you want to do it before even going through one battery charge. I have the 40v also, and it has taken a beating and keeps working.

This product is defective trash. I encountered the same problem you reported here, and your other video on how to fix it. In disassembling the thing, it's apparent that the motor shaft that drives the eccentric metal discs (and thus the blades) is significantly too short. It barely intrudes into the top disc, allowing only a tiny contact area between the shaft and disc. So when the insufficiently-secured screw comes just a tiny bit loose, the disc comes off the shaft, which spins against the disc's flat-sided opening... exacerbating the problem by abrading away the already-tiny contact area. And even if you re-tighten it, the problem will recur. But before you get to that point, Ryobi insults customers by putting the body of this thing together with 7/64" HEX SCREWS. Compounding that: Instead of the screws going in through the bottom of the unit, which would allow you to remove the bottom plate and gain access to the troublesome motor shaft and discs... they come out from the interior of the device, so you must pointlessly disassemble the top half of the device to unscrew them and remove the bottom plate. Oh, and for a final insult, all of the screws holding that bottom plate on are the 7/64 hex... except the LAST one, which is inexplicably a T10 (Torx) screw. Meanwhile the two screws at the front of the plastic guard are Philips. Don't reward any of this with your money.
