C'mon Ryobi 18V Laser Level! We can hope, right? They need more hybrid devices. It's cool to have more options than just the 18V battery. Edit: they need to make some of the larger tools (like this) compatible with the Link system for storage! Have a leg that has the link pocket on it to hang on the link system would be cool!

We have an absolutely huge hardware store in my neck of the woods , and the tool section they have rows and rows and rows of different brand power tools , also with a vast variety of battery powered ones , and they have a range of low to medium to high cost and quality tools , , and to me ryobi appears to sit in about the middle of the range for home handyman type stuff , but it never ceases to amaze me how much imagination and innovation ryobi puts into their products, and that’s why I am a fan of the ryobi gear . And this utterly brilliant and versatile stand is just a perfect example of ryobi constantly coming up with new ideas.

Yes and no. The light has a Power supply and DC/DC converter to run the 18v stuff off of 120AC/40vDC. I would be very surprised if it could handle much more than a couple of amps @18v. So it will *technically* run the drill, but if you put it under any load at all it will probably either shut off power or fry the supply.

Couldn't you put a 18v drill on top, basically inserting the entire tripod into the drill like a battery would be inserted? I believe that's what the original comment was joking about.
@anthonybarker9123
@anthonybarker9123 2 ай бұрын
@@ifThenelseEnd Yes, the drill could be attached to the top (the same way the right-angle ratchet was) and would run. The issue is that it would pull too much power under load. Think about it like this. You could replace your car battery with 8 AA batteries. You could probably even get it to turn the accessories on (engine computer, interior lights, etc) for a little while) But the instant you tried to start the engine the batteries would go flat. Same thing with the tripod. It can provide the Voltage just not the current for high-demand stuff (inflators, vacumes, all those single speed high draw devices)

One cool thing about Ryobi and Ridgid is that they test out most of their future or out there ideas for Milwaukee products forst in the lower cost lines. It allows them to test the market and refine the products from real world feedback before introducing them in theor higher end lines. That means the average homeowner or tradesperson can get a lot of quality innovation without them having to commit to the higher ticket price items from Milwaukee.

I was thinking same, but for a similar/different hack: at night in the backyard, set them up so we can actually sit outside. Put two of them on as fans, one on as a mosquito blocker, and one on as a light! What the best thing is about them is that you are paying for multi-functional tools AND your neighbors will be jealous! You can also spray paint them if you really wanted to...

If they come out with a light that has color temperature control, this could be a definite video production staple. It'd also be neat if there was an interface with professional video cameras. You could set up nine or ten of these, all with different functions at the top, powered by a 40 watt pack on each tripod. 3 for the cameras, 3 for high temperature light (5000 kelvin), 2 for warm light (2700 kelvin), one for amber (2200 kelvin), and one for whatever other function or as a spare

If all those adapted lights and fans and radios came with it at an affordable price then everyone would buy it. I know I would buy it for sure

I'm not expecting this to come in at a very affordable price. If it comes in under $200.00 I would be pleasantly surprised. Seems like a very good product.

$200 or under seems about right. Basically just a dummy battery on here, but we shall see 🤔

Looking at Milwaukee prices id expect under $200, even with a 18v battery.

Honestly I would of preferred 40v saws to this, like a 40v recip or circular saw would make so much more sense. Or a dual power 18/40v table/miter saw or dual power vacuum that uses either 2x18v or 40v to run. I think making one product that supports both battery platforms, whether it's like this and uses a step down to 18v, or uses dual 18v batteries or 1 40v battery, is the way for them to go on all but the biggest 40v tools

I would have liked to see an outlet to chain other lights or plug devices into as well.
