A look at a common reason for this style of Ryobi string trimmer to not start. The repair isn't too difficult so follow along. We also look at what it takes to replace the fuel lines on this power head.

I replaced fuel lines on my Ryobi 790R two summers ago, but today I could not start it, I looked and noticed leaking fuel, the line to the fuel filter was leaking where it came out of the tank. I remembered that one was hard to do. So your method of pulling out the fuel filter and installing line outside the tank first did the trick. I still had a long enough piece of new line to start over and do that. I had flooded the trimmer earlier in the day , but let it sit for a couple hours and it started right up after that. Thanks, hope to get a couple more summers out of the old trimmer.

I had one of those 20 years ago. When it died I replaced it with a Stihl. The Ryobi wasn’t a bad trimmer, I just abused the hell out of it.

If it held up to abuse then I guess it can't be all bad.

I just finished repairing my fathers old Ryobi Grass Scorpion RCT2800A. It is stamped made in USA. Engine looks very much the same as this one. My trimmer doesn't seem to have a clutch system. The cutting head rotates no matter what you do to the idle adjustment ??

Some low cost trimmers don't have clutches, as you've discovered.

I wonder if the Blue Locktite will be effective given the heat. Heat is what I use to soften Red Locktite when it seems to be holding tight enough to risk breaking the head off of the fastener. And, this remindsme, I need to replace fuel lines on my old Red Max.

I think blue Loctite is rated at 300 degrees so we should be ok.

Loctite won’t hurt it. I rebuilt these engines a million times, I used loctite on every bolt

Is it alright to use TruFuel 50:1 premixed fuel for Ryobi 725r trimmer?
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag 2 ай бұрын
Sure, if it calls for 50:1. I'm not familiar enough with ryobi equipment to know if its 40:1 or 50:1.
@mwand89
@mwand89 2 ай бұрын
@@TheGreasyShopRag the original mix ratio for the Ryobi 725r is 32:1. I hope 50:1 won't cause issues.

@@mwand89 I asked a lot of people and gotten a lot of answers. Some say that a modern synthetic oil at 50:1 will work where old dino oil ratios were originally used. Of course others don't even like using 50:1 in 50:1 equipment. If it were mine I'd run a synthetic oil with an FD rating at 40:1.

I replaced the carb on a 25cc ryobi straight shaft and starts fine but when i turn it off it wont start unless I let it sit for 1-2hr or use the next day. Help...

If it were on my bench the first thing I would do is look into the cylinder for scoring. It needs to be clean and scratch-free in there.

Thanks for the response. I'll stick my bore scope into the cylinder and check. Of no scoring then what? I also replaced the the coil.

Great video! What size fuel line are you working with here? Thanks :D
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't buy the line or pay attention to the part numbers. We sell all sizes for the same price so I just go to the parts room and grab something that looks close. I'll later bill fuel line by the foot.

I suspect that at least half of the cheap gas powered yard equipment problems are caused by the owners throwing the tool across the yard or straight onto the ground with great gusto when ever they decide to randomly not start for no reason whatsoever
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if its half but certainly a good portion of them get thrown. We should start asking when they drop off the equipment. "Make, Model, And how far did you throw it when it wouldn't start"?
