Ryoji Ikeda: micro | macro - Dokumentation der Ausstellung
Als Prolog zur Ausstellung »Infosphäre« präsentierte das ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe Ryoji Ikedas »micro | macro«.
Der japanische Künstler befasst sich mit Daten, Licht und Klang auf Grundlage mathematischer Methoden und physikalischer Theorien, um immersive und weiträumige Installationen zu schaffen.
Am ZKM hat Ikeda ortsspezifisch gearbeitet und die monumentale Architektur der ehemaligen Munitionsfabrik für eine zeitlich wie räumlich komplexe Präsentation genutzt. Seine neuen, vom ZKM in Auftrag gegebenen Großinstallationen »the planck universe [micro]« und »the planck universe [macro]«, sowie die beiden Werke aus der Serie »supersymmetry« (2014) sind eng miteinander synchronisiert, verwoben und kontrapunktiert. Sie verwandelten die gesamte Ausstellung in eine einzige große, audiovisuelle Symphonie.

We are bombarded constantly by a stream of subatomic particles. This is a great metaphor. I wonder: does anyone ever have an epileptic fit sitting in this installation?

I think more credit should be attributed to the programmers. Ikeda does not create the graphics and the projections. Computer designers and programmers do it for him. I wonder how many know that. I just found out because I'm writing an essay about Ikeda
