Hey, Ry, I saw you being a bit awkward with the hammer-handle routine. I keep a few old hickory hatchet/hammer handles around to use as non-metallic drift/punch tools. You can pound metal parts around to your heart’s content and not scratch or dent them. Seems you have the same respect I do for mating and bearing surfaces and use plastic when possible. Excellent habit!

Good tip! After that first piston I started putting the hammer on the other side of the crank and it was not flipping around as much. Love the idea though, might have to pick one of those up.

Great episode. I appreciate how methodical you have been in this tear down, Kudos. Although this type of work is way beyond me, I still find the work fascinating. Happy new year Ryan. All the best in 2022!

Glad you like it! I really appreciate you watching my content even though you don't plan to do that work. Thanks for the support. Happy new year to you too! 😁

Thanks for the content. I was going to change two heater hose assemblies in my Xterra and probably do a drain and fill of the radiator. I watched your livestream and heard you say you might drain your coolant. It would be great if that was one of your upcoming videos as I'm concerned about properly burping the coolant system. Thanks for all that you do!
@Rythecarguy2 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help! I will look at the process of a drain and refill. If it's reasonable and relatively inexpensive I should be able to knock it out.

Oh thank you! I have updated videos on pulling the VK as well if you're interested. This time I tool it out of the front with the tranny all in one go. Rather than out of the top. 💪🏻

Does this engine have oil jets for the cylinder liners?
@ahmadghosheh31042 жыл бұрын
That is a very smart move. I watch Fay Hadley on KZbin and she's rebuilding and machining the Toyota engine with Dan Soltz. The precision work is amazing, onr oops can damage the engine for sure . Can't wait to see the final result. Do you plan on doing something similar with the transmission?
@Rythecarguy2 жыл бұрын
Thats awesome. If I had the equipment, I would likely give it a try but there is just so much that you need. If I am going to start buying bigger equipment, I think I would head the fabrication route. Benders, welders, etc. I would love to get into that, and I feel like it's the natural progression of my channel. I think I am just going to do as much maintenance on the trans as I can. rear seal, filter, drain/refill and hope for the best. It drove great when I took it all apart. I will say the front and rear diffs dont feel healthy. Might have to do something about those shortly have getting the engine done.

Hey ry what size socket did you use to get the rod caps off i cant find one that fits
@Rythecarguy2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. It's just a 10mm but it's a 12 side not a six side.

@@Rythecarguy ive tried and it just skips. it wont fit any other sizes smaller or bigger all 12 point sockets

One question how do you know new pistons size if is required?
@Rythecarguy2 жыл бұрын
I don't know it off hand. You would have to measure the existing piston or call the Nissan parts department.

It looks like it consumes oil and it overheated that's why it's crispy brown rust colored
@Rythecarguy2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I would not be surprised based on how the last person didn't maintain this thing.

Look into deleting the oil warmer. It's not a cooler. Delete tb coolant lines and maybe remove the tstat for summers
