Song Mode! This tool saved and actually dominated a project I was working on with an artist. I knew of it, from using the chain mode, but not until I was sync'ing around 8 unique patterns to a real DAW based project, each pattern corresponding to the complex song. A1, the intro A2, the transition to the first verse, A3, the first verse, etc. The MOST IMPORTANT feature was that the DAW measure position marker followed perfectly! We needed to overdub Performance macro sweeps deep into the 70th measure of the song, and I was shocked to find the song mode seamlessly snapped to the 70th measure in the song's structure within the RYTM, according to the "x1/x2/x3" pattern repeats we programmed in on the fly. So yes, this machine, so close to being sold due to the Kit/pattern wedding, which the Digitakt is free from. But then, it always comes back to save the day, dominating over all other bass sources I demo. I run the analog outs into a pair of 1073's by Rupert Neve, instead of the Overbridge, and it just envelops perfectly every mix I make. Thanks for doing this video. Huge fan.

Regarding that LFO part at like 3:20, I love Rytm's HOLD mode for things like that! Give it a slow sine or triangle and it sounds random without big jumps of sample and hold wave. Also, hell yeah, PLEASE do a song mode tutorial! I'd love to see your approach🙌✌️

Wonderful tutorial on the Rytm! I love mine and it blows away more expensive machines like the Perkons and on par with modular drums. I plan to use mine with my dark trilogy of Elektrons like Octatrack and Analog 4! Look forward to more tips from you.

A tip for Rytm kicks, don't use the pitch sweep time parameter to control, & add the pitch env shape of the pitch down attack part of ya kicks... U can create a more accurate tuning & speed of a pitch env attack, by using the lfo ramp or saw shape in one or half trigger modes. This also works just on the pitch, instead of the sweep time parameter... In any of the other elektrons for kick drum shaping, &/or other suitable drum percussion sounds to try on too. I learnt this years before I had Elektrons on all the drum machine sides of Electribes... Elektrons are much better at it 4 sure tho.

Another fantastic video. You’re fast becoming one of my favourite channels. I wish I had not sold my Rytm. They since added midi for external instruments to it. That was sorely missing for me at the time. Also the single lfo on each instrument I found annoying. If they added another lfo I’d buy another in a heartbeat. Current,y have a Syntakt so a lot of this carries over. I like a lot of all the small bits of info. It all adds up.

Sounds great what you're doing there. Have you ever tried to use the velocity modulation menu instead of blaming that there is only 1 LFO? 🙂With velocity mod you can dial in keyboard tracking for the filter, you can play with amp decay to create various but consistent lengths, you can also do the same thing with delay/reverb sends, and of course you can limit the range of the velocity to volume! VELOCITY MOD gives access to a menu where up to four PARAMETER page parameters can be assigned to the velocity mod parameter.

Really cool watching you work on the RYTM. It’s obvious that you really know your way around this piece of kit. The hi-hat issue you mentioned is a big reason I don’t own it already. Hats are very important to the way I structure percussion. Would love to own it, but I can’t imagine fighting with the hi-hats.

Thank you for your kind words! Hats! I often forget that Rytm is also a sampler and you can layer samples with synth on one track. And this is how you can make great hats on it 😊

what was that trick where you are in mute mode and you cue up mutes to turn off or on at the end of a bar?
@joysandsarles2 жыл бұрын
When in mute mode, if you hold down the FUNC button you can select mutes and they'll light up blue. They won't trigger until you then release the FUNC button, so you can cue up several to happen all at the same time without needing to have twelve fingers :)

I can recommend loading some transient samples (Clicks, noise etc) to layer with the Kickdrums:) When you merge both together in the same Engine, you get really nice results. I do this with my field recordings and was really able to get "personal" kick:D

Yes! Layering is a great! I often use the rim engine to sample a rim shot and layer with the kick drum.

Really like your videos. How do you record your finished tracks? Do you publish them on e.g SoundCloud? Last question for techno production in all varieties ….which Elektron device is probably most complete? Cheers
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hey Philipp! Thanks for watching! I record my tracks into a DAW in a number of different ways. Very hard to say which one exactly it is. For publishing to be honest I don't have any room in my brain to do so. Neither I see much value from this now. I publish on KZbin and that's what I like doing! I think in the future I will publish more outside of KZbin. Which Elektron device is most complete? The answer is neither. It all really depends on the context and the goals that you have. For my personal taste I think it is the Analog Rytm. It is great for studio and quite powerful or even outstanding for live performance.
