In celebration of his comprehensive achievements and legacy, we’re re-broadcasting Sakamoto’s incredible performance alongside Taylor Deupree.
A composer, record producer and actor, Sakamoto’s eclectic career saw him win an an Oscar, a Grammy, a BAFTA and two Golden Globe Awards. We also had the honour of having Sakamoto as a founding curator of Boiler Room's 4:3 platform.
If you want to discover more, we would recommend watching Tokyo Melody: a beautiful documentary directed by French photographer Elizabeth Lennard, which features Sakamoto during the recording sessions of his 1984 album “Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia”.

Mr. Ryuichi Sakamoto was a great musician who had a great influence on musicians around the world in electronic music and film music. Especially the music of Yellow Magic Orchestra was advanced and very good. Thank you for your wonderful music. Please rest in peace.

Missed this concert 9 years ago, so really grateful for upload 🙏🏽😊🕉💜 Such a wonderful gift to ease the loss we all somehow feel. Such an awesome shapeshifter, storyteller, shaman connected to his genius in ways that are truly inspiring. Ryuichi must have been affected by Yukiihiro’s passing: I truly hope Haruomi stays strong. RIP Maestro; your footprints here will remain inspirational, as long as music is valued.
