Thank The Bus Driver is a level that Giant Bomb (uploaded by Jeff Gerstmann's Mii there) made on stream as a part of their Giant Bomb Makes Mario series, with the help of KZbin stream chat. You can find the video of its creation on youtube. I remember that video from when the level was made, it's fun to see Ryu play one of those levels now...

So, I did a little sleuthing to try to figure out what the "Thank the Bus Driver" level was about and I found an answer. It's a Fortnite thing from 2018. There was an internet meme glorifying "people who thank the bus driver" as ridiculously amazing. The internet being the internet, they tried to campaign Fortnite in 2018 (it started 6 months before that level was uploaded, but memes tend to drag on) to add the ability in Fortnite to "thank the bus driver" of the flying bus in that game. The "THE SANTA CLAUSE" in there is the spelling for the 1994 Tim Allen Christmas movie about him being forced into becoming Santa Claus due to a legal clause. He did work as a bus driver before becoming an actor, but I doubt that's related. Best I can figure is the level creator uploaded it 6 days before Christmas and had the film in mind. A few days earlier Nerdist ran an article on why the movie was a Christmas classic, and of course it's frequently aired on television that time of year.

You dont have to learn the entire language but even just being able to read the basic Hiragana helps alot with levels like 3. Its quite funny reading something like "Chibi Mario Adventure blabla" and then seeing the mushroom come down right away.

Got an idea for a challenge run: Perfect Only. Clear the final level with 100 lives. If at any point you lose more lives than you can possibly gain with the remaining levels, the run is over. Being 4 lives down going into the finale? Run over. The difficulty naturally ramps up with each cleared level as you have fewer and fewer chances to regain missing lives, and levels without 1-up opportunities are potentially run-ending if you've died before that point.

Im happy we all have each our own way to make speedrun to games. And the cool about Ryu is that he record his video and play levels he havent played before. Thats very challenge. Then it is impossible to avoid dying many times. Compared to other speedrunners that play the same level for very long time, before making a run with no mistakes :)

Also I had a dream last night where Ryu was controlling a real life Mario in a real life level, it was at like a theme park or something, except the level was a sky tree with rising rainbow lava and for some reason there was 3 or 4 goal posts at the end....Ryu was getting really tense it was so ridiculasly difficult but in the end Ryu failed and Mario died by missing a jump, he was only 2 or 3 jumps away from winning. What did him in, was a weird diagonal jump and a horizontal blowy joey! Love my dreams, theynever fail to entertain.
