I think it would be cool if they just allow you to configure your own goals in SMM2. You set the number of levels you want to beat, the number of lives you start with, the difficulty, and whether skips are allowed. So if you wanted to mimic SMM1 super expert no-skip runs, you set it to: (levels: 6, lives: 100, difficulty: super expert, skips: off) Maybe you want to do a gauntlet of normal levels: (levels: 100, lives: 10, difficulty: normal, skips: off) or a Trilogy of Butt-Clench: (levels: 3, lives: 5, difficulty: super expert, skips: on). Runner's can post their own configurations as challenges to other runners. Once people post proof that they've beaten a challenge, it can always be made more difficult. The possibilities are endless.

Yup. And Nintendo can build in some preset configurations that match the original game and maybe track leader boards for those. Also since Nintendo encourages skips, instead of a no-skip setting, they could just score your run where you lose a few points for the leader board when skipping or something.

@@BladeOfLight16 From what I've gathered it's not just that Nintendo encourages skips, but that they don't want to encourage not skipping. I'm pretty sure Nintendo wants to avoid any situation where someone might skip, but decides not to only because they'll get a lower score on a leaderboard or something, potentially sacrificing enjoyment because of it. Nintendo seems to have a pretty hard stance on it, and "just adding the option" would run counter to it. Not taking any sides here, just pointing out it's what I've observed.

Nils Nyberg Nintendo should add an option for no skip. You get 60 lives or something like that, but the skipping is disabled. But as we know, this will never happen

my guy you haven't seen what the old ryu can do. u are new here aren't you? lemme tell you something. go watch his kaizo Mario 3 speed run video it's long but trust me it's worth it to see what he is capable of. SMM2 ryu is nothing but 5 % of his power, its childish play. SMM1 is far superior and raw when it comes to skills. SMM2 doesn't give you the joy of true kaizo.

What you miss is a concept that lens itself well to your KZbin channel. The endless challenge will not ver have a "I have won this challenge" cause it's endless. But smm1 does have that. It's easier to make videos on.

because its a flawed mode , just look at ryukahrs life count , up until the 4th or 5th level he barely lost any ,then burned alot much better to have the challenge continue on , theres lots of ryu runs where he could have beaten a 7th or maybe up to 10th level with his 100 lives , meanwhile , give him the puzzle from the "my brain is melting , send help" episode , a midair consistency level , and a very tight timer level like that mario bros 3 level and he wont be able to finish the run , even with 100 lives its just so random if you will easily beat it or not , but being able to consistently beat 10 or 15 super expert or even normal expert levels in smm2 will always rely on skill more than on simple luck if you have the option to skip levels ,and its not like "okay i beat 5 , now i just skip until i get an easy last one"
