In Japanese, a similar expression could be "クソゲー" (kusogē), where "クソ" (kuso) means "crap" and "ゲー" (gē) is an abbreviation of "ゲーム" (gēmu), meaning "game." This expression is commonly used to refer to low-quality video games but can be adapted to describe something bad in other situations as well.

I speak a few languages, Spanish, Greek and a little Portuguese and recently started watching a lot of Japanese movies so figured I would learn Japanese. It is the most difficult language to learn I've seen. Not only do you have to learn vocabulary but as Ryu said tone matters. I'm still grinding it but feel as if I learned nothing yet after a few months.
@BlackMaleLion10 ай бұрын
How does learning Japanese as a second language compare to learning English as a second language in terms of difficulty? If one is harder than the other to learn as a second language, which one? I know for a fact English is a nightmare to learn. English is my first and only language. What makes English a nightmare to learn is the grammar, sentence structure and multiple words that sound the same, but different spellings and different meanings (“too”, “to” and “two” is most likely the most well known one and for the wrong reasons). I don’t know all the grammar rules.
@airhead340910 ай бұрын
@@BlackMaleLionI don't know too much about about Japanese but a lot is massively context dependent as well as time tenses. Pronouns can change depending on social rankings (work or age) and you have like ten ways to refer to yourself. Lastly, their alphabets are much bigger, with the Kanji one involving several thousand characters.
@Erlewyn10 ай бұрын
@@BlackMaleLion There is the opposite too, same spelling, but completely different pronunciation, like tough/though/through, love/move, or even funnier, tear/tear. Of course, as a French, I'm no stranger to weird rules and exceptions, but what makes english really hard for me, and the reason why I'll always sound weird, is lexical stress. A notion that doesn't exist at all in french.

隆上級 just means advanced as opposed to 中級 Intermediate or beginner. 者 is person. So it just means expert. Senior is just the product of crappy English education in Japan. Ryu wouldn't be hard to pronounce in Japanese. It's literally the name of a street fighter character. That being said, there are many ways to pronounce those sounds. りゆ - Ri yu - A girl's name, but closest to how we pronunce the streamer. りゅう - Ryu - Character in street fighter (隆) りゆう - Ri yuu - Longer "u" sound. A word that means Reason (理由) also a name. Can be written (隆) the same as the previous one. Kinda like Tomato / Tomato in a way Rs in many languages are pronounced only slightly differently, somewhere between "R" and "L" is what many say. Pro tip: ゴリラ Gorilla. Listen to a native pronunciation of this word and emulate/shadow it daily for 2 weeks and you'll get your "R" sound down quicker. ルール (Rule), レストラン (Restaurant), ロケット Rocket, リーダー Leader, just find as many R-Loan-Words as you can! Good luck!
@zeta_eclipse10 ай бұрын
about your last point, the word for leader kinda sounds like reader, so if u wanted to say "reader" would you then strictly stick to the native word for it?, and btw ryu is dragon in japanese, and ryu (the youtuber) has a dragon as his icon so maybe he took it from japanese

So, "ryu" being difficult to pronounce isn't so much about the Japanese "r" sound. That IS a thing, and it DOES make the sound more difficult, but it's a bit of a separate issue. The bigger reason it's difficult is that it just twists your lips and tongue in a way that you will not be used to. Most people's instinct will be to pronounce it like REE-yuu, as if it were two syllables, but you have to actually say the entire thing to flow as a single sound, as a single syllable. And that's difficult to pull off smoothly in general, but especially so with an English "R" sound. The "rya" and "ryo" sounds are similarly difficult, but "ryu" is particularly so.

If you are american, you can properly pronounce RYU by replacing R with very short d. Also add another VERY short y to the beginning. So "ydYU" and you are very close to what japanese say. The first y is just a itsy bitsy whisper. I'm not japanese but finnish. And we have a somewhat similar R with japanese, actually even stronger. But you can use the same D-cheat with our R's as well. Sun = Aurinko. You pronounce it "AWdeNKo".
