how does this have more ports than most laptops in the modern day, crazy
@t.terone5222 жыл бұрын
Why? Pricing. This thing is expensive as hell for the performance it has. And because of that it puts alot of ports onto it. And NO form factor is absolutely irrelevant with Ryzen Apus. Ever opened a ryzen laptop and how it just uses a quarter or so of a 15" laptop? The rest is empty space or just some cables connecting distant motherboard and subboards to another. And if the ram is soldered its even smaller. (also no 2.5" ssd slot in this one so automatically much more space for all the things) So size makes this thing cheaper to produce not more expensive. (would be different with a discrete gpu because that needs more space and traces on the motherboard etc and therfore more space. Shrinking this and coming up with a tight mainboard design makes things expensive etc. This here can be pretty much stock stuff) In addition to that this thing would be USELESS if you would need usb hubs hanging from all sides therefore it needs to have the ports on the device without extra clutter. For comparison I got myself a 15" Ryzen 5300u Laptop 8gbDDR4 512gbNVME for 230€ it has a crappy TN panel tho. But IPS screens are cheap and the only reason this one just has TN is so Lenovo can sell the same model with a better screen for a premium it wouldnt need to cost. Its just business practices. But since its connected to a monitor 24/7 and its internal display is turned off I dont care. How do I know IPS is cheap? 40€ Amazon tablets have them. I got myself a 13" 1080p Laptop 4 years ago (Trekstor Surfbook) with an IPS screen for 130€ And this year I got my nephew a cheap 15" 1080p Laptop with Intel N4020 and an IPS screen. Also from Lenovo. Tried to transplant the IPS from the Intel to the better Ryzen but both a different models and the bezels are to different and also the cabling is different.

TB compatible is up to 40 gig bandwidth through a translator. TB4 requires the full speed is guaranteed which does help a little. But an m.2 PCIe3 x4 lanes can usually beat TB easily. Asus XG Mobile diverts the internal x8 lanes from the onboard GPU to an external GPU, it works well enough. Minisforum shipped a mini PC with exposed x16 lanes for dGPU. I am really hoping we move toward smaller PCs and a commons cable standard for external GPUS. It would help out laptops a lot and make desktop upgrades much easier.

@@passintogracegoldenyearnin6310 thanks for this info. Do you think there will be a significant difference betwenen the two?
@passintogracegoldenyearnin63102 жыл бұрын
@@acupofsecuritea4802 You can get up to 80-90% of the expected performance of an RTX 3070 or 3080 under ideal circumstances. But sometimes more like only 60%. m.2 PCIe3 x4, which is faster on average than TB, is still only 1/8th the bandwidth of a desktop PC's PCIe4 x16 (half speed and 1/4 the lanes). Normally this is still okay, especially on bigger GPUs which can store textures longer and reuse them. Less load on the link, the better. And you will always get best performance on an external display, because sending video back to the laptop screen reduces how much data can be sent to the GPU. Um, the short of it is that an external RTX 3070 8GB card hooked up to a TB4 port on a laptop should perform similar to an RTX 3080 laptop in a lot of applications. If you plan to use an eGPU, Alder Lake is probably the better choice because its high single core performance works well in a lot of game engines. The real goal of external GPUs is to keep your laptop thin and light for travel, while having the performance of a desktop at home or at work. It's not that cheap or efficient but it's still mostly cheaper and takes up less space than having multiple separate PCs.

I mostly just want to see eGPU comparisons. Also what are some of the issues you encounter while using it.

Based on your review of the Intel, I made my order for the Ryzen 32MB (on just Tuesday this week) - like you, I'm expecting this will become my go-to portable ... how long did yours take to arrive? My ASUS Rog Strix 3060 Ti has arrived so now I'm just waiting for the ADT-Link and some cables. And 40 inch ultrawide monitor arrives next week. Can't wait to have it all put together 😁😁 Thanks for posting your content. I would never have known this sort of thing was available as an option - and so much more to offer than alternative "conventional" laptops at the same price, if not higher.

Would be great if you could talk a bit more about how heavy the device is, comfort after prolonged use and also button placement. how hot does the device get.. and also how loud does it get? really enjoying your vids keep up the good work x

Great video - would be nice to know benchmarks side by side between AMD and Intel since you've had the Intel one. Great video and look forward to more benchmarks and testing. Any chance you can test Dota 2 on the 680m please

The Phawx did that already. The 6800U is about 50% faster in gaming.

On the Loki Max preorder train. Not reserve, full pre-order. Just need them to ship in Q4 and ill be happy. Using the Loki Max as my bedtime laptop/handheld. mostly playing mmorpgs and other such rpg games on it. I can't wait. Also gonna get a usb hub that will not only supply power to the handheld but also give my two usb ports to plug in a mouse/keyboard. gonna be a sick little setup. I already have a cell phone holder/arm that i use for my phone which i can also use for the handheld which is why i wanted a smaller handheld screen so it could fit in the mount. plus im not blind, so i can see small screens no problem. i find it funny people who buy 4k monitors but cry "text too small" and then run 200% scaling which effectively runs windows in 1080p mode.... its just whack.

If you could, I would really appreciate you testing egpu performance between USB4 and the extra m.2 nvme slot on the bottom. It’s PCIe Gen 4x4 which makes me think that you would get much better results than with USB4!
@Whatsup_Abroad2 жыл бұрын
usb4 supports up to 40gbps transfer speeds. More than enough for modern gpus

Really like this beautiful 👍 form factor -- stunning indeed. My likeliest use case would be: fun and experimentation . . . unless I find a way to wiggle this into my work portfolio 😜. Thank you for bringing this to us, Prime.
