RZ350 NC2 Resto Mod Ep29 - Porting Cylinders

In this video I ported the cylinders. This is my first time doing any port work. I think it went well.

Unfortunately I have no access to a dyno. Butt dyno says it runs remarkably good. I'm very happy with the results in performance.

Hats off to you for having a go yourself at porting. It must have been very nerve-racking. From the tuning job I had done on my old YPVS, the exhaust port was quite a bit bigger than standard. But it was best part of 40 years ago so I couldn't tell you more than that.

I suppose a bit nerve racking Ian. But after a while I got comfortable with it. I got a real good "report card" from Brian when I dropped off the cylinders and head. Never at a loss for words he gave me lots of great porting tips. I listened as a good student and may do a little more work on the ports post boring.

The rz s a cool bike in stock form,you can allways do banshee 420 kit with pipes if you like a good powerband.

Hi Ken some advice from a porter, buy long burs and the rounded tip is best as it doesn't dig In, also don't cut dry as it will clog the cutter, best cutting fluid is wd40 with 10% 2 stroke oil, I mix in a spray bottle and have it hanging on my porting bench, I have the airline next to me so I can blow all the swarf out, also it washes texta off so I scribe all my lines with a sharp scriber, if you don't want to scribe then you can dip your carbide into the wd40 mix and it will keep the carbide clean and cutting

Ken Jeggs has a 3 pack of long shank burs for porting, I use a few different ones but the oval head and the round head cutters work well, there's some thin round head cutters the width of the 6mm shaft and there quite handy too, as for the knife edging it's supposed to hinder flow but all I do is cut the transfers right down and they end up knife edged or very close too and then I take a bur and round them over a tad to aid the smooth flow over the peak, keep playing 😊 I enjoy watching your vids, also look into degreeing your engines and then you can work out what port degrees work for your desired outcome,

Also ide like to add every bit you remove off the transfers relates to a change of degrees in port timing, other thing is raising the exhaust port 0.5-1mm and port matching case to barrels plus a little intake window is all most people need just to wake them up

Big holes is not necessary for a good and high Power. I get over 80 PS without big holes.

@@KensGarage1 It is very easy to get more HP on the RZ 350, but it is even easier to damage it. If you raise the five transfers 1mm, you lose exhaust time, for example. You must KNOW what you are doing. I see in your video that your RZ 350, sounds, it works and runs very well. Do you want more? Two stroke tuning is a very contagious disease and there will come a time when you will always want more and more and more... I encourage you to get it. Greetings.

@@jejerele Thanks for coming back with that reply. This was my first time porting cylinders and I think I was more than safe with it. The porting is not nearly as aggressive as my Thrasher bike porting which runs very well. The port map I got from a friend of mine that has done several of these. I am always learning and experimenting on these motorcycles.
