@@SXSGarage When you do a gear reduction like this, will you have to re-tune or re-clutch your machine? Also what is the upside to the gear reduction
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@bprguy2003 no you do not have to do a clutch kit when you change gears. We suggest clutch kits though to be able to fine tune the clutching to your machine setup and riding style to get the best performance.

@@SXSGarage so I ran he snorkel tube in as tight as I could get it snd wasn’t thinking you have to loosen it back up to get to zero back lash I thought zero back lash was on the way in
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
😳if you threaded it all the way in and left it then your gears are really sloppy because there's not much engagement. Easy to break the teeth. If you unthreaded it all the way to zero that makes the teeth tight and is causing a lot of stress on all of it.
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
You can message us on Instagram or Facebook and I can send you the manual screenshot.

@@SXSGarage I threaded it all the way in and didn’t back it back out to zero and go from there. I drove it around my yard and a lot of clanking. I have the transmission back out gonna follow your guide lol.

Nicely done! I’m feeling better about my upcoming gear reduction and bearing change. Quick question...Why the third stage reduction? 37” tires?
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
We think that 35's are pretty much the limit of ace gears. We prefer to be able to crawl just a bit better. Plus we run truck tires which are heavier than UTV tires. So we can crawl really well in the rocks with 35's and still have the gearing to run 37s in the snow.
@MyBluegoose3 жыл бұрын
Does the 3rd stage reduction effect reverse, high and low gears?
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@MyBluegoose yes, everything down stream of the low, reverse, and high gears effects everything.

Per manual: install righ case half before finding zero backlash to square pinion. Wives tale?
@SXSGarage2 жыл бұрын
I think I forgot to mention it but yes you should. What I usually do is set the backlash on the third notch. Then set the case half on it, located by the two pins, so that the case half locates the end of the shaft via the bearing. Spin the output to double check there's no tight spots.
@jessicaspotts20692 жыл бұрын
@@SXSGarage thanks for the quick reply! I'm a noobie but notice the case half on for finding zero backlash made it much tighter. Had I not done that my "zero" would have been one notch tighter. certainly double check after finding 3rd notch too.

How did you handle pulling the bearing off the snorkel shaft gear? I have a VW special clamshell that when I tightened it down the bearing halfway popped off, made it easy, but I don't think most people will have that tool. That clamshell had almost a knife edge and sharp ramp so as you tightened it, it wedges the bearing off.
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
The preferred way would be to use a bearing splitter/separator like you are referring to. We have used two sharp flat chisels. Just put them 180° out and pry a little moves the bearing. Then either use a regular puller or the slide a couple pieces of chromoly under it and use the press.

Killer video series guys! Very informative and makes my confidence go up to give this a shot myself. What is the total reduction in this trans once your done? I’m on the east coast with mountains and rocks and I’m still unsure of what reduction I’m wanting to go with on my ‘21 turbo S4. Thanks for any help.
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
The final reduction on this trans is 86% low, 37% high and reverse. That's because it has 3 gear reductions. I would need to know what size tires you plan to run to suggest gears, but most likely the Ace 325 and the Ranger low. We installed those gears in the Part 2.

I am interested in the stage 3 gear reduction. It seems the optimum offroad no longer exists. Any other recommendations for a stage 3 gear reduction? I am working with a 2020 trails and rocks edition xp 1000
@SXSGarage3 жыл бұрын
They were around when we filmed but I believe he was shutting down sometime around the time the video was posted. I have not personally seen another stage 3 reduction. Have you contacted hd extreme? They used to sell the optimum gears. Even though optimum was shutting down they didn't make the gears. They were made by another company I believe in LA. Supposedly there was a chance they were going to continue making them and be sold though another company such as hd extreme. Worth a shot. I know turner makes reductions and may have a stage 2 reduction that is more than the ace 325.
