i think you mean he developed a Kismesis view toward John, which is typically seen as a Rivalry. It can be mistaken that they're trying to constantly kill their Kismesis as trolls are violent by nature, but really it's wanting to one-up their rival to prove that they're better to their rival, to everyone and most importantly to themselves.

Mostly its because of John's blood color. Karkat had to hide his mutant blood his entire life, almost didn't have a lusus because of it, and feels he has to work even harder to get where he wants. He has to watch John, who has the same blood color, be taken care of his entire life with no judgment, not to mention his guardian just found him and took him in. All that, combined with John's derpy attitude, probably pisses Karkat off fiercely

This is so tragic. Karkat and his crew had thrir world completely destroyed, survived, and yet endured so many trials and troubles. And just as they reach the end... there goes their prize. Their universe doesn't belong to them, their lives are gone, any semblance of happiness they may have had was ripped away and there was Nothing. They. Could. Have. Done. John and his friends live their own lives, ignorant of what their existence has done to Karkat. Their lives are so much happier than Karkat's was. Even now, they have it better off. The music. The circumstances. And most of all, Karkat's absolutely broken stare at the end. It's just so utterly heartbreaking. I wish I was more emotionally susceptible to moments like these. I want to be able to feel the sadness and the impact of a story more. I want to be able to cry, to feel the emotion of things like these. But I can't. Edit: I wrote this at the point in the story where I viewed this flash, so I didn't know other things, and Homestuck is confusing so there is like a 50% chance I'm wrong lol

He found his calling in Sgrub. But along the way, all of their lusii died, and Karkat thinks it was his fault.

He had to stand by as the Blue Team exiled Jack, his blood brother, to future!Alternia. He pushed himself so hard over the course of the troll session that he got little to no sleep. When he finally awakens on Prospit, he sees Jack/Bec Noir destroying everything and is then killed by him, leaving him feeling deeply betrayed.

It's been 13 years. It's hard to articulate just how momentous and impactful Homestuck was, and then how immediately irrelevant it became after Act 5. We never had a moment like this ever again. Just look at the comments - all of the theories, all of the fan love, all of the passionate people getting completely absorbed. "Does Karkat hate Jon" "The humans are responsible for ruining the Trolls (which turns out to not be true)" "Hate at first sight" etc. None of that same passion for Homestuck exists anymore.
