Pete Lyczek it really is...literally haha. Not saying it isn’t good ammo. S&B have definitely given me better groups during slow fire when focusing on being as precise as possible. But the vast majority of what I do with an AK is usually run and gun between 50-100yds just trying to get center mass hits on torso targets. I’ll save the brass cases for shots where I’m taking a little more time.

@operator1192

Nick Levine most 7.62 AKs are overgassed from the factory to ensure maximum reliability even with poorly manufactured ammo. I’ll admit that the KNS pistons are nice especially when shooting suppressed or if your gun is violently overgassed but most of mine aren’t overgassed by much, even suppressed with the Dead Air PBS-1, but they are enough so that the cases usually end up with a small dent from hitting the dust cover or charging handle

This is some of the most accurate 7.62x39 ammo in my AK’s. Good stuff, but you pay a premium. For hunting or self defense, this is a great option. But if you’re using it for target practice, don’t, save it for a rainy day and use cheaper ammo for the range.

Reloading 7.62x39 for an AK was an epic failure for me. My Hungarian under folder, my Arsenal SAM7R, and my Vepr (in 7.62x54r) all tore brass cases to shreds. Cases came out badly dented and damaged, something I don’t see with steel. The Vepr struggled with any brass, especially any heavy ball ammo. It loved light ball with steel cases.

Isn't "high military standard" an oxymoron?
@rzr2ffe325
@rzr2ffe325 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what the other baseline options are. Normally the military will go with the lowest bidder if it's buying in quantity and if they can still meet the requirements. Alternatively, if it's something more specialized, the inflated military industrial complex normally offers the best available. While there is still bidding for contracts, the Pentagon may purchase quality if it offers a considerable advantage. Case in point, the stealth bomber.

My AK gets nothing but berdan primed, steel case, bimetal jacket. I only clean it on leap years, and the only rust is on the disused bore brush. My mosin nagant, however, still gets fed some corrosive ammo that I have left over, and if it doesn't get cleaned the second I get back from the range there will be corrosion before nightfall. Y'all haters have obviously never fired corrosive ammo, let alone noncorrosive Russian ammo, or you would know the stark difference.

I hate the whole AR vs. AK battle. You have what you have, it doesn't matter whats better, I got both. I love them equally, each have their pros and cons, don't judge a gun cause it can't give you every little thing you want, cars and women for example, not to be sexist. You can buy all you want, and you could make it the best, except for women, but it's not your decision to choose what sucks and what doesn't. Nothing but respect for SFOD-D As for ammo, there are reasons AK's use steel cased corrosive ammo. Its designed fir it and prevents FTE's and problems with cold weather engagements. The AR system was designed for brass. Using steel cased ammo causes FTE's because the coating will stick to the chamber wall. As such, only brass in AR Only steel in AK Its never a good idea to operate a weapon outside of its manufactured specifications

It sucks that Yugoslavian brass ammo was corrosive. I purchased a crate back in 2002 and never opened it to this day. Both tins are still in the wood crate and I only paid $140. Same as the 7.62x54r I still have a Hungarian crate and a crate from Poland. I love collecting ammo its so cool what used to be out there. Now it's all gone and the stuff you can find is so overpriced its sick. I have some great 8mm and 30-06 from Ethiopia that is dam near match grade stuff.

I've always been told that running steel in an AK platform is more of a safety thing than a performance thing. Due to its violent action

Never heard that I don't believe. It's been 10+ years since I really looked into it. From what I remember, it was just about cost. Steel case was always way cheaper. I've never had a problem with either in my WASR tho.😁😉

Who? S&B? They have zero bussines in starting a steel case production line. ZERO. Not economically viable. They are a major NATO and hunting ammo maker. No reason to make cheap combloc ammo.

I have not seen much if any S&W ammunition available on the market for many years. It's good ammunition, and competitively priced. Now that Russian imports were cut off, other Eastern Bloc ammo makers should take over that market

Corrosive ammo is not harmful to the gun in any way as long as you clean it after you shoot it. You can shoot 10,000 rounds of corrosive and non-corrosive ammo side by side in identical guns, and they would wear the same as long as you cleaned the corrosive gun with water based solvent after each session. It's not scary, it's not extra wear, it's not worth any worrying over. I have shot TONS of cheap, corrosive milsurp in 8mm Mauser, x54r, x39, x25, and 8x56R. It all goes bang and it all cleans up just fine. No rust anywhere on my guns. 👍

@@mannys9130 only thing is, it's a pain in the ass to get out the hot, soapy water after every range session. As long as you're down with that, corrosive is nothing.

I don't like using brass in my ak because for some reason my rifle will fire with no problem for about 30 to 60 rds and then the nose of a case eventually breaks off inside the chamber and I will have to jam a sreel case round in just to extract the broken piece

I don't know about any other caliber but I've used this brand for 303 Brit and the diameter of the bullet is slightly smaller then the 311 that the 303 is supposed to be. And because my Enfield is made in 1916 I'd rather use the best ammo I can find for it even if I do have to pay a little bit more for that ammo. Unfortunately this brand isn't quite it
