I applaud Maurice for playing a role with such a hidden depth of darkness and twisted emotion, considering he is manic depressive in real life, which wold only make Sonny all the more difficult to play. I can only imagine what type of mentality & preparations he puts himself through to get by each scene. To optionally put yourself in that dark place where you usually try to avoid to maintain sanity. It must be scary. Maurice deserves every ounce of love & appreciation as an actor.

I think, in the end, just before she died, he did love her. Nowhere near as much as he loved Brenda, but he did end up loving Lily. He wouldn't have grieved as much as he did if had hadn't loved her on some level. JMO of course :)

No. It was all guilt he felt. He cared for Lily, he didn’t love her. Only reason he stayed with her was because she was pregnant with his child who he would never have abandoned. The writers like to change the past to suit their needs

@sofia ladybug..You are correct, Sonny did not love Lee Lee, he never did and he never said anything about wanting to shout it to the world. He was leaving Lee-Lee for Brenda the night before she went Clink-Boom. He stayed because Lee-Lee told him she was pregnant. He stayed because he said he would never abandon his child, like Mike Sr. did him. His guilt is because his baby died along with Lee Lee AND I know Jason didn’t say that BS. Especially since Sonny has told him so many times that Brenda was his first love, that she will always be the love of his life, that he will love Brenda forever and that he will die seeing Brenda's face. GH tried to rewrite history with these Carly, come second episodes and this deep grieving for Lee Lee, give me a break. GH S&B lifers know how Claire wrote the story from the day Sonny arrived in PC, especially the Sonny and Brenda storyline. And tell me this, why didn't the GH writers that came after Claire have Sonny kick CARLY out after she got Sonny in trouble for drug racketeering and transporting drugs with possible 15 years jail time. Brenda wore a wire, that went nowhere, yet they destroyed them. The GH writers destroyed what could have been a great storyline with S&B. True Brenda fans knew Brenda was a classy ride-or-die for Sonny. Again, Carly walked out with nothing and scott free. Somebody really liked the thought of S&C. Then to have Sonny end up with Micheal when Jason had Micheal from birth. Raised him, took care of him, and was his father (even though AJ was the sperm donor)was ridiculous. They even ruined that storyline back then. Still SAD, all these years later...They turned Sonny's character dark, there were no true relationships between any of the families, and then they put him with the town SLUT, yes Carly. Plus while with Carly, he screwed anything that moved, he had love for Carly, but even Carly knew Brenda was the love of his life and when Jason claimed Micheal he was a newborn, yet Sonny ends up with him and in "hate sex" Sonny talked about Carly like she wasn't shitz. They made Sonny's character not only screw every women, they all got pregnant. The writing SUCKED after Claire, Gaza was so hung up on the God father. Again, they couldn't rewrite history, but they tried...enough venting still years later...lol

@@jukubros1033 I think Sonny did love Lily but didnt ewlize it fully until she and their baby was blown up. yes he carried a great amount of guilt as the bomb was for him. but he also felt greif for what should have been but never came to be. He and Lily SHOULD have welcomed their baby into the world. and the stages all the stages before for brith, who will baby look like, take after etc etc etc

I think he did love her but wasn't in love with her and that bothered him more. She was perfect, she was everything he ever wanted in a partner and a mate. They were friends and had respect for one another and got along good. But he couldn't fall in love with her.

He never loved Lily; she bought the marriage through her father, and Sonny felt guilty she died because he agreed to marry her and give up Brenda even though he never did. He always and forever will be in love with Brenda. Lily knew that and Carly does too. To prevent the same thing happening to Brenda is why he left her at the altar - because she’d already been shot at, kidnapped twice, and hit by a car due to him. Sonny wants to protect Brenda at all costs, but he will settle for these others who mean less to him.

That’s why his marriage to Brenda didn’t work… he kept defending Carly and wouldn’t let her lose Joslyn in the custody battle with Jax.

@PariNicole Sonny have admitted on occasion though that he did love her and was in love with her though, that she was the only woman that has treated him with respect and has actually truly supported him. He has also said that he trusted her the most. Some may say Sonny didnt love Lily whatever, I believe that he did, not in the beginning no but toward the end of her life and after she died it showed that he really did

S&B are Twin flames that's why they have difficulty working things out. Twin flames can sense each other, if you watch the old clips of S&B you will see them sensing each others presence. Brenda saved Sonny's life on instinct alone. Sonny always said they were connected and they are.

Amen! Twin flames! Sonny and Carly are Twin Flames. They both had the same life experience and they both needed each other to help them move forward past their pain. Thing is the writers weren't very good about seeing that no all relationships have to be forever...people in real life get that. Sonny needed growth and evolution and the women he encountered helped him get there.

Sarah Edwards , Nope Carly never had the same life experience as Sonny. She was raised with loving parents. She was adopted at birth . Brenda has the same life experience as Sonny. Her mother was in mental institutions and she was emotionally and mentally abandoned by her father which is abuse. Sonny was abandoned by his real father and beaten by his step dad. Twin flames have a deep love connection and they are practically telepathic. They have a hard time being together because when they love they love hard and their love can be devastatly painful. Twin flames help each other evolve. In the case of Sonny he devolved with Carly, he evolved with Brenda. Also Twin flames look similar both Brenda and Sonny are dark haired passionate Latinos, they are mirror reflections of each other. Brenda was and still remains Sonny’s love of his life his true love, But Carly was his soulmate. Sonny and Carly have this bond that really show us they were destined to be together. The rest of Port Charles just can’t understand their dynamics. They both have this hard exterior they present to the outside world but when you see them together their full vulnerability comes out. It’s very noticeable when you watch in 2003 when Sonny again has a bipolar breakdown and during the time when Carly was kidnapped and chained like a caged animal for weeks and weeks.

That is the way I see it. He treated Lily the way he treated his mother like she was special and like she was a queen. He kept saying she was just like his mother. The writers think we don't remember the episode even after it just aired, that's how insulting they are. I've yet to understand how or why they tried to re-write Sonny's feelings for Lily. Sure he cared about her and was extremely guilt ridden over her death but he was never IN LOVE with her. At the time Lily was one of the obstacles keeping him from Brenda who he was in love with.

He wasn't in love with Lily though. It's not making anything up, Guza tried to but he wasn't in love with her. He was in love with Brenda. He felt guilty about not loving Lily back and honestly, he was using Lily. He had a lust for power and she was a pawn in that game. MIchael Corinthos Jr. (Sonny) isn't a bad person though, he has a dark side and he know it and he doesn't like it. He feels guilty about it. Carly should have ended with SJB. She was a necessary part of the character Sonny's evolution but their relationship shouldhn't have gone past SJB.

Sad to say...I think this is a big reason why Maurice is nowhere near as good as he once was. He takes medication to control his bipolarity. When he acts now, he never seems to reach the extremes he did. He does not have real conviction, real sorrow, or even real anger. HIs bipolarity made his acting great. I don't find him anywhere near as convincing anymore when he acts. Part of the problem is bad writing, but so is his medication.

That's a very interesting point ! They say a lot of geniuses have madness in them. Bi polar people say they go off their meds bc they miss the highs but obviously the lows are unbearable . The meds even them out I wonder if it makes them feel like the rest of us . My son has add we tried meds but it made him like a zombie. We stopped after as month and while he struggled in school he is an unbelievable artist hes so creative it's like the add makes him.who he is. The meds make him.domeone he is not. We are on constant conflict what to do bc the add doesnr affect his intelligence just creates issues for the teachers . I wish to god I knew what to do my own pediatrician says do not ever drug him these teachers want neutered males who sit still for an hr at a time which he says at 7 Is impossible for them. I'd say 80 percent of the boys in his class are labeled add
